I received a very friendly welcome and I really liked my big room at the top of the stairs on one side. The room was big with sloping ceilings which just added to the character. The bathroom was huge. It had great views over the river and marsh. Breakfast was excellent. It was nice to choose the hot food the night before and then be greeted with a lot of continental selections. There was also a great view outside the hotel with several benches. I really liked how quiet this hotel was after being in London for several nights.

Sue received us kindly. The appartment is well-equipped and peaceful. The bedroom was quiet and cool, which is important for sleeping. The property has an excellent location near the centre of Rye. We could enjoy St Marys church and the Mermaid Inn but also a wonderful early morning walk across the dewy meadows to Winchelsea railway station. The path for that walk was very close to the property. We finished our visit with a brief visit to Camber Sands.

What a stunning little town.

What a stunning little town. It was so festive and walkable, with a pub every hundred metres or so and beautiful shops. We also loved looking at the church and going up the scary stairs to see the view.

Love it!

Love it! We spent our honeymoon there 45 years ago and we had a wonderful time taking a trip down memory lane, despite the awful weather! We had dinner at the Mermaid Inn ,which was delicious and where we spent our honeymoon. We also had a few drinks at the Waterworks- an excellent Micro brewery

Rye is a very pretty place. As our stay was in November all the Christmas lights were up which added to its charm. There are a lot of independent shops, restaurants and bars. Definitely a place we would visit again.

This was my second visit to Rye this year, but was well worth the effort to see the Rye Fawkes pageant with the Malcolm Saville Society. Lovely walks around Rye Harbour and from Appledore. Great food at Simply Italian on Sunday evening. Another climb to the top of St Mary the Virgin's tower on Monday morning in glorious sunshine to see the views before departing.

What a little gem! Superb location with an equally wonderful vista. The breakfast certainly set us up for the busy day ahead, it had everything from cereal to cold meats and cheeses with a excellent cooked breakfast in between. The addition of the small bar was a bonus- we met some German and Dutch travelers exploring the British isles and we couldn't have agreed more that they were staying in the best hotel in Rye!

Very delicious breakfast served in such a relaxing atmosphere by staff that make you feel very relaxed and welcome. The gallivant isn’t a normal hotel it’s far from it. I’ve never felt so welcome and so relaxed which is all down to the incredibly welcoming and friendly staff which make you feel like you are at a very special place. This is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Thank you to all the staff at the gallivant
