The reception staff (Cathy) was unhelpful and bordering on rude. The barman told my adult son that my husband and I were "stupid" as we didn't know the currency and had to ask if we had given the correct coins. There was no early check-in available and no secure place to put your luggage while you waited for your room. When we walked to our room we passed a lot of dirty dishes left on the stairs. The room was tired with chipped paint on the walls and cupboards. Breakfast was okay but don't expect all the hot food options available at one time. The water pressure was fantastic and the grounds were beautiful. The cab company recommended by the hotel was fantastic.Guest review byBarbaraCanada - 10

Sawbridgeworth is lovely, as I have lived there previously. Went to Bishops Stortford, dont go there! The Rising Sun is fantastic|!!!!! The Indian Resturant across the road is over priced and the service is extremly slow, stay away.Guest review byTONY - 8.0

the rooms are untidy and dirty the beds in the new building are very uncomfortable and then in the old building the rooms are dirty and in disrepair. the staff are absolutely lovely cannot fault them, happy and friendly. I work all over the country and stay in many hotels and apartments but this is one of the best. Very clean and very comfortable you need for nothing. From kitchen roll to cotton buds to a well stocked spice rack. No issues with parking and the restaurant next door is excellent with very friendly staff. The owner had provided a welcome pack of milk, bread, cheese, butter, fruit, wine, etc. which was fantastic. There are some country walks from the cottage or into Sawbridgeworth.
