Everything was excellent from the details of the room decorations, to the common spaces (just adorable guests lounge with stunning views), to the food (amazing breakfast). Everything was perfect. Iain & Elizabeth were incredibly lovely, treating us more as family members than guests. Every tiny detail was curated, from the lemon pie they gave us as a welcome gift, to the tour of the house given by Iain. They even made us a breakfast bag because we had the ferry at 6 in the morning. Perfect stay in a lovely island!

The view was very beautyful. It is also very close to the next bus stop which was very practical. The lokation is also a good starting point for many hiking adventures. The room was bright and very clean. The hot shower after hiking was a bliss. Breakfast in the morning was very tasty and we enjoyed to chat with the other guests of the house. The hosts of grimisdale guest house were very caring and always willing to help when necessary.

The place is marvelous itself. House is spacious and very convenient. Extremely well equipped, cozy. There was actually nothing we would not love there. Garden, where otter came through on its way to the sea. Elk came to say Hi. Seals nearby. And in the evening, fireplace with live fire and peaceful view over the bay. Fits well two families. Both having their own privacy, but plenty of space to share as well. All that in the heart of lovely Harris countryside. Simply one of the nicest and the most pleasant places we visited yet.

The house is wonderful as are the people who look after it - nothing is too much trouble if you have a query or need help with something The property is in a little place called Maraig rather than in Tarbert which is about 15 minuts drive away so trust the post code when it takes you off the Tarbert road!

Tarbert is quiet, but there are plenty of places to go to...

Tarbert is quiet, but there are plenty of places to go to from there. It's nice to watch the ferry come and go. Lots of nice wee shops to browse. If you want to visit the distillery, check the opening times. It closes at 12.30 on a Saturday, so we missed it, not having checked beforehand. Be prepared for almost nothing open on a Sunday.

The locals and shopkeepers we met in the village were very...

The locals and shopkeepers we met in the village were very friendly and helpful. The local grocers are good for topping up provisions, if you are self catering and have done a larger shop in Portree before catching the Ferry. The deli, cafe and hotel restaurants are excellent and the North Harbour Bistro on Scalpay is worth a visit and only a short drive away. The Isle of Harris distillery is next to the Ferry Terminal and there is an excellent gift shop across the road from it for little memories and lots of Harris Tweed options Luskentyre beach is less than 20 minutes away Watch out f9r the sheep on the roads!

We should have booked round the Tarbert distillery as there were no spaces when we called in to see. What a lovely place, well worth a visit even if you can’t get a tour. We ate at the Hebrides Inn, owned by John’s daughter and son in law and the food and staff were excellent

We stayed outside Tarbert but made use of Tarbert for...

We stayed outside Tarbert but made use of Tarbert for shopping, petrol and dinner. The town is cute (there aren't many towns to speak of on these islands anyway) and has all the basic necessities you'd need during a stay on Harris/Lewis. Obviously, for anything major, you'd have to go to Stornoway, but that doesn't usually apply to people on holidays.

Tarbert is a small island town, with small shops.

Tarbert is a small island town, with small shops. There is a reasonable sized car park in the centre. It has a butcher/grocer store, and a small post office, a friendly small charity shop, and a Bank of Scotland. For tourist gifts there is the Harris Tweed store near the distillery, as well as the lovely “essence of Harris” soap and candle shop in the town centre, near the Calmac office. There are two hotels: the modern Hotel Hebrides opposite the Calmac office building, and the more upmarket Harris Hotel just up on the road to North Harris: both are ideal bases from which to explore Harris and Lewis, with the mountains, beaches, and cycling routes. We loved Tarbert, very relaxed and friendly, with a lovely community feel.

wonderful position. Everything you might think you need is provided. Espresso pods, hot chocolate, fresh milk, washing powder… Rooms are a great size with ample space. A relaxing open-plan lounge, kitchen, dining space with outside area (we were so lucky with the weather so could watch sunset outside) made for a wonderful evening of self catering. We did have dinner and lunch at the sister hotel which was fabulous!!! (pizza burgers and my favorite the dual pork!) Great wifi throughout the apartment. Cannot recommend them higher.
