It is a truly beautiful place. Everywhere I turned there was a picture calling to be taken. The green grass, the beautiful gardens, trees and flowers, the small pond - everything had an Alice in Wonderlandish feel. It’s far enough from the city to be surrounded by beautiful green fields and close enough that you can get a taxi to ride into the city center when needed. The staff was exceptional, always polite and taking care of every request whether it was a cup of tea in the lawns or suggestions of what to do nearby. The spa was also wonderful - with the heated pool, jacuzzi and steam / sauna, it all added to a relaxing stay

FAQs about hotels in York

England Through The Ages

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.

Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.

A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.

Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.

Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.

Walking around the town, especially at Christmas time is amazing. A lot of effort goes into public decorations and the overall feel of the city is great. There’s many food places to eat and a great range of proper British pubs to grab a drink or bite to eat in.

York is such a lovely city with some amazing buildings. We attended the carol service at the Minister which certainly gave us the Christmas feeling which continued on the following day when we visited the lovely Christmas Market.

York is a beautiful old city with much to do and see.

York is a beautiful old city with much to do and see. It is very accessible by rail. The physical location on the rivers Ouse and Foss is lovely. There are many historic buildings and features, the most remarkable being York Minster and the city walls. It is one of my favourite cities. It is very good for walking, sightseeing, eating, shopping and worship.

A beautiful city with something for everyone, great history, architecture, shopping, markets and an abundance of great coffee shops and restaurants to choose from. The Shambles is always a favourite with its market and quirky shops but also love ambling down the endless small side roads with great shops and atmosphere away from the crowds Alimente Tapas on Fossgate if a firm favourite! Great food and service

Lovely, clean city with loads to offer whether it's a bit of history you're interested in or just chilling spending time with family and friends. Loads of choice for places to eat or drink. Can highly recommend Bennetts cafe right next to the Minster for a pit stop cuppa and a snack. Also highly recommend Minster Walk Guest House if you're looking for somewhere a bit different and close to the centre of York, it's a smashing place to stay! Top tip : comfy footwear!!

Spotlessly clean. Great Churchill theme throughout the hotel and impressive style of building. Ideal location for walking into York City Centre. Tea and coffee facilities in room. Handy light switches and plug sockets by the bed. Lovely beer garden with pizza oven for sunny afternoons and evenings - great food and drinks and easy ordering via QR code. We can't wait to come back here... Hopefully every year! We've found a new favourite hotel!

Had an amazing week away with my Fiancé. Hotel is a very short walk away from the city centre but out of the way enough that the road is quiet. Mo and the other staff were very very welcoming and made the whole experience so much more personal than other hotels. Super accommodating and friendly. Cannot recommend enough for people looking for a great place to stay in York

We stayed in the Annex, where the en-suite bedrooms were spacious, well laid out, and very comfortable. Parking operates on a first-come, first-served basis but is quite large and reasonably priced at £15 per 24 hours which is great value for York. The hotel's location is another plus, with just a pleasant one-mile walk to the city centre.
