A Dynamic City with 3400 Years of History

With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history whilst embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you will find tavernas serving tantalising souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.

A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds downtown.

Changing the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The up-market districts of Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.

Athens contains some of the finest museums in the world such as the National Archaeological, Acropolis and Benaki Museums. From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus, this is a city bustling with the old and new. On Booking.com you can find everything from modern hotels to a room in a classical building.

The sites are worth visiting, and some are well-preserved.

The sites are worth visiting, and some are well-preserved. Not all sites are worth the trip; some are just plain ruins of ruins. The Metro is a great way to get around and quite cheap. Otherwise, Athens as a city is not clean, badly kept, has dangerous pavements, many dodgy neighbourhoods even on the main streets, and locals are not always welcoming to tourists. There is a general sense of being charged more just because you are not local - even at a simple bakery!

Wonderful Graffiti and artwork on so many streets and buildings such as colourful outpouring of political faith in change. Easy to get around the City walking quite dangerous as unexpected uneven paving and potholes. No sound in the morning of birdsong, children playing absolute silence except for passing traffic, occasional church bell and distant emergency services siren. No joy de vivre or la dolce vita. Felt quite lonely and disturbing.

Athens is truly a city that captivates the heart and mind!

Athens is truly a city that captivates the heart and mind! From the moment we arrived, the rich history and vibrant culture enveloped us. Exploring iconic sites like the Acropolis and the Parthenon was a dream come true. The breathtaking views from these ancient landmarks are unforgettable. We found the local cuisine to be a highlight of our trip. Dining at traditional tavernas, we indulged in delicious dishes like moussaka, souvlaki, and fresh seafood. Each meal was an opportunity to savor the flavors of Greece, often accompanied by warm hospitality from the locals. One of our favorite experiences was wandering through the charming neighborhoods of Plaka and Monastiraki, filled with unique shops and bustling markets. The blend of ancient ruins with modern life creates an electric atmosphere that's hard to resist. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time in Athens and would recommend staying for at least five days. This allows enough time to soak in the history, enjoy the local culture.

Athens is a marvelous city.

Athens is a marvelous city. Mixing the old with the new, we were taken aback by all the history right at our fingertips. Our view from the street in front of our hotel was of the Acropolis was amazing. People are welcoming and warm and it's such a great walkable city...we only wished we could have stayed longer. 5 days wasn't nearly enough.

I felt very free and comfortable in the city.

I felt very free and comfortable in the city. My wife and I walked everywhere together. The beef souvlaki and saganaki cheese were especially delicious. The city's texture and history made me feel like I wasn't so far from home. I will definitely come back.

Nice city...

Nice city... It was great to see the Acropolis and other things.... but at some point, once you've seen a temple, you've seen them all (just a different location); same with ruins. If you are really into Greek Mythology, it'll be more amazing to you. Prepare yourselves for graffiti EVERYWHERE. I thought major US cities were bad, but Athen's takes the cake, which is a shame because of its historical significance.

The location was ideal as I was travelling from Athens the next day on the Ktel bus to Delphi. It was a short walk from the bus station. It was especially good as my Barclays account and the Greek bus company could not work together and I was unable to reserve my bus tickets until I got to Greece. Staying at the Roy meant I could go in person the day before I travelled. The hotelier explained the safety features of the room to me, which was excellent.

People were giving their very best to all customers. Service mindset is very visible and they just try to satisfy customer satisfaction. Breakfast was delicious as expected from a hotel in Greece. Gregory at the reception was very helpful during my check-out. Besides, location of the hotel is very good. It is walking distance to Plaka. Amenities are good quality and very good cleaning level.

We loved the hotel: clean, good location and nice food! But the absolute best part was the staff! We came here two times during our Greece trip and it felt like coming home! All of them were absolutely warm and helpful. We especially want to name Grace who was probably the nicest person we have met in whole Greece!

This was my second visit to this hotel and it did not disappoint. A great base to choose when either arriving or leaving Athens to the visit the islands or other parts of Greece. Our room was very spacious and quiet. We enjoyed the rooftop facilities and dinner overlooking the acropolis.

Breakfast was the best we had in Greece. The restaurant is in a beautiful location on the rooftop, and there is a large selection of items. Location was great, and the best part was the pool and view of Athens. Incredible!
