Be careful on the subway, especially when getting off your first stop from the airport. There are muggers targeting tourists. Athens in general is very pretty in the Plaka and tourist areas. It has a good vibe and having dinner while looking at the Acropolis is beautiful. It's amazing to see such old historical sites. For us, we found it very expensive, especially eating out. But overall we had a lovely experience. All the tourist things are easy to walk to. This was our third trip to Athens it was a brief visit after 11 nights on the island of Sifnos. It is a wonderful place to visit, visiting the Acropolis is a must we also went on the hop on hop off red bus line around Athens this is very informative and really worth the money. I really loved the hospitality of the residents, pretty much everyone speak or can understand English, they were cordial and very helpful if you ask for directions. The archeological sites are well maintained and entry to them are easy and smooth if you get there early in the morning, should not be long lines. Food is good pretty much all over (some places at the tourist areas are a bit expensive) but do some research and go and eat where locals eat, like Tavern Saita, in Plaka, food was outstanding, real authentic Greek cuisine and prices are for locals!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

I stayed in the main tourist area of Plaka which for visiting attractions like the Acropolis was perfect. It was also right next to a Metro station making travel there and around very easy. However it was very and I do mean very busy. Lots of cafes and restaurants but even with that number sometimes difficult to get a table, especially for a solo traveller. Location is great just outside the tourist bustle but easy walk to major sites. Rooms on the smaller side but to be expected in the city. The two large balconies made up for this and made room look bigger. All the staff were exceptional from potters front desk and restaurant. Breakfast amazing with to order eggs and great pastries.
