Kissamos offered us a wonderful mix of relaxation and local charm. The nightlife was a pleasant surprise, with cozy bars and lively tavernas where we enjoyed delicious food and drinks. Evening walks through the town square and the nearby streets filled with local shops and traditional products were some of the highlights of our stay. Kissamos itself as a town is nothing special but it has some seafront tavernas and its location makes it a good base to explore the local area - in particular to take a boat trip around to Balos bay and lagoon which is highly recommended, including a stop at Gramvousa island to walk up to the castle. It's also a short drive over the hill to Falasarna bay for a closer nice beach option with sunbeds. Kissamos is not really a tourist town - yet, but has all that you need for self-catering and a reasonable selection of tavernas and cafes. It is ideal as touring base. A car is pretty much essential though there are buses. Near the Hermes hotel there is a lovely sandy beach plus useful tavernas and cafes. Nice and remote, surrounded by farmers fields, and with the sea front only a short walk away. Fantastic hiking routes nearby, and 10-15 minute drive to a good selection of supermarkets / restaurants (mostly in Kissamos). We arrived into Crete early, so reached out to the host on Booking.com messages to ask if we could check in early. It's close to the center of Kissamos, where you'll find shops, restaurants, and cafes. The room was nice and clean with a sea view. This hotel is an ideal base for trips to Elafonisi and Balos beaches. We recommend taking a boat trip to Balos and Gramvousa. The check-in and check-out process was very simple.
