Stylish, spacious and welcoming studio in outstanding mountainous location. Our studio opened up on to a terrace overlooking the pool with a view of both the sea and mountains. Woken up both mornings by the birds and passing horses. Modern comfort in a rural idyll. Super responsive host providing real insight into the area. Free secure parking and great wifi also helped on a working holiday. Will definitley revisit and have already recommended.

The villa is just wonderful. We loved the spaciousness, it’s fully equipped and feels like a home. The beautiful lush flowering garden and the big pool and the spacious area around it with the view of the ocean made it a true oasis to rest & relax, wind down, and breathe. We ended up spending more time at the villa than exporing the surroundings, because it was just so perfect and tranquil. The hikes around, near and far, and Paleochora and the three beaches are also great, though. And the staff was very welcoming and lovely people. There are 5 bedrooms, would be an amazing place for a getaway with good friends or family.

The location was fantastic. Beautiful mountain area. Just 15 minutes from sougia and 40 minutes from paleochora. The communication with the owner was great and he helped us with different issues that we had. Many facilities in the house - Washing machine, and well done kitchen. The price is very affordable

Excellent for half-day walks into small gorges, but also plenty of taverna choice (even in April). Full day trip to Agia Roumeli on boat allows for 7 hours in that inaccessible village at end of Samaria Gorge (very sleepy in April, before the gorge opens!) and a coastal walk to an isolated but open Saint Paul taverna by a 10th century church on the beach!!

Sougia is a lovely, small resort but has plenty of places to...

Sougia is a lovely, small resort but has plenty of places to eat and drink, but not much else. It is perfect for sun-worshippers and those who prefer a quieter holiday (though there are a couple of music bars). It's great if you are with friends as I was, especially if you have access to a car, though some of the roads are a bit of an adventure. It's not ideal for families as the beach is steep at the waterline so unsafe for those who are not good swimmers. There are busses and water taxis to other places but land travel always means going up a mountain and back down again. Plenty of walks in the area, but the heat and terrain make them challenging. Well suited to "serious" walkers. The sea was wonderful, clear, warm enough and uncrowded.

A very scenic drive from Chania, especially via the Omalas route, (slightly longer but worth it). The town is tiny. 200 or so residents, but still manages some excellent restaurants. There is good walking, particularly the popular trail - one and half hours - westwards to the archaeological site at Lissos. Alternatively, one can arrange a boat to Lissos, for a few euros, either one way or return. At 0830 a longer boat ride can be arranged eastwards along the scenic south coast. Evening beach walks at Sougia are also nice. For a more strenuous trek one might wish to visit the Agia Irini Gorge. The entrance is signposted directly next to the road 4.5km north of Sougia, with parking. It is far less crowned than neighbouring Samaria. Some 7km long it takes about three hours to walk.

It was very quiet as it is November, so end of the tourist season, but nice. The weather is still perfectly fine to go to the beach, there are still some restaurants and bars open. It's a nice little quiet place to go hike or stay on the beach without the crowds of Chania or Heraklion.

Sougia is a small village at the mouth of Agia Irini gorge, approximately 1.5hrs drive from Chania airport (we rented a car) It has a couple of mini markets and a couple of gift shops but the main street hosts mainly tavernas. The beach is a pebble beach with crystal clear water. You have access to bus,ferry and taxi services allowing you to explore the surrounding area. We have stayed in Sougia 4 times and we love the tranquility and beautiful mountainscape.

Very relaxing, chilled, and out of the way of the city hustle. Quite the feeling of hippie lifestyle, with relaxed attitude towards nudists. The beach has both areas for people who enjoy to swim with swimwear, and without. There are several tents around the far end of the beach, and the atmosphere in bars and restaurants is relaxed. Great place for walkers as well as those who just want to enjoy the peace and quiet. Daily ferry service, and one bus service. I stayed in Lissos rooms which was lovely and quiet, and ate in Livikon which had excellent grilled king prawns, and the fabulous lamb and beans dish

A charming little town with a cozy apartment that truly felt like a home away from home—spacious, spotless, well-designed, and excellent value. The location was fabulous - with the apartment almost on the beach, and Sougia is also perfect for hiking the beautiful gorges and the trail to Lissos. We found plenty of free parking close by. The landlady was wonderfully kind and helpful. We love Sougia and were very sad to leave! Highly recommend this gem of an apartment as a wonderful place to say while you are there!

Quiet place, beautifully located in a small village in the countryside. Good place to relax but also as a base for discovering southwest Crete. Georgia and her staff are wonderful hosts. 2 min walk to authentic tavern with good food and great view of the valley.
