I like everything, the owner is friendly, helpful if needed. It's worth the price you pay, even though the room equipment is basic, but it's worth the price you pay clean and tidy rooms, not far from the city center and tourist areas.

I can see why this place was so highly rated. From start to finish our stay here was perfect. The family are so welcoming and kind. They go above and beyond to help with everything, from booking excursions, cars to helping do laundry. Breakfast was super tasty and it came with a different fresh fruit juice every day. I couldn’t recommend this place enough, the rooms were perfect for the stay.

Host was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. She went out of her way to help us with a sick child. The homestay had a large tranquil garden despite the city being busy and noisy. The room was large and comfortable, easily slept 5. Host gave great recommendations for local food too.

Our stay here was amazing! We had just arrived from the Netherlands and took a taxi from Medan airport. Upon arrival, the host immediately asked if we needed a guide to go to the volcano, which we definitely wanted. She called Tico, and within 2 minutes everything was arranged. The next day we did a sunrise walk, and the day after that we had a driver who took us to Parapat so we could continue on to Samosir Island. A guide and taxi driver all in one! Tico spoke good English and explained everything very well. As two women, we felt very safe. Our host made pancakes for us every morning, and we had lovely conversations with her about life on Sumatra. She also spoke good English. The room and bathroom were very clean, and we slept well. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the center of Berastagi. This place absolutely deserves a 10! Highly recommended,

The views from the hotel room....lovely.. I waited for sunrise on the two mornings that I was there. It's a homestay ...hence, the owner kept us well informed. We had lovely cooked dinners and breakfasts.

Robert and Mitha are great hosts - they will make sure you have all the help you need. They will certainly help you with finding guides, getting to your next destination, and local food to try. They have superb local coffee available. The room was very comfortable.

Cesspool!! Open sewers everywhere.

Cesspool!! Open sewers everywhere. The whole town stinks of human and animal waste. Very dirty, trash everywhere. Hostile environment towards outsiders and tourists. Locals openly abuse animals all the time. Impossible to safely consume any food that is not pre-packaged from a Western brand. Consuming anything local or freshly made carries a high risk of infections, parasites, and diseases. No soap anywhere. Everyone tries to cheat you. Hike with Berastagi Adventures is an exception. They are good guides.

The volcano hike was amazing and so beautiful, but there...

The volcano hike was amazing and so beautiful, but there wasn’t much else to do after that. If in a straight couple or a mixed gender group it might be more pleasant to wander around and explore the the town, but as a solo woman or two women it was quite uncomfortable in terms of the amount of attention and harassment we received. If I went again I would just arrive in the afternoon, do the hike in the AM, and then head off again after that.

NICE TOWN, VERY NARROW ROAD, NOT ADVISEABLE TO DRIVE ON YOUR OWN, FOOD IS GOOD, WEATHER VERY NICE COOL. THE DOWN SIDE IS TO GET HERE FROM THE AIRPORT OR MEDAN. THE VERY NARROW WINDING AND THE LOCAL DRIVER IS SCARY, TRAFFIC JAM IS EVERYWHERE

To climb the vulcano in daytime no need for a guide. For the sunset if the sky is clear no guide needed. But if it is cloudy and night - get a guide. Extremly loud city due to the crazy motobikers.

Loved our stay at this hotel. Beautiful location. The room was large with a nice balcony. The bed was very comfortable so could get a good night sleep. The shower had reasonable hot water. We booked a sunrise tour up the volcano through the hotel. The guide was excellent and the views are amazing. The tour also included a soak in the hot springs, a visit to a beautiful waterfall, a replica budist temple and a church.

Absolutely everything! Maybe I had different standards coming from a jungle trekk, but for the price I paid this is one of the best hotels I‘ve stayed in (in Sumatra) so far. The food is amazing and staff speaks english really good. They helped me with everything and even spontaneously organised a Mount Sibayak sunrise tour.
