It has great potential but over the last few years it has disimproved. It used to be much more buzzy, with many more shops and venues open. Still, it is close to so many lovely places to swim and walk. Monks was ok, we got shunted out of table as bigger group was coming in, and the food was just ok. Went to brillant old bar, O Laughlinns I think. Great, packed, lovely atmosphere, atmospheric, but nearly had a heart attach at the price of two very good whiskeys. Couldnt do this too often. While a bit off the beaten path, Ballyvaughan was a very pleasant place to stay. The room (and bath) were comfortable and felt like a cozy stay in a hunting lodge. The breakfast was terrific!! Ballyvaughan is a quiet little village hugging the shores of The Atlantic Ocean. There is a wide selection of accommodation suppliers to choose from. The location is very pretty, a great place if you want to take in an evening stroll by the seashore. There are a small number of shops in the area, such as local craft shops & cafes. We hiked in the Burren National Park (which is free), and that was lovely. It's very rocky, so I'd recommend bringing hiking boots or really durable shoes if you're planning on going on some of the more difficult trails. The hosts were very friendly right from greeting us upon arrival and giving us tips to serving us breakfast before we left. The full Irish breakfast was very good. We had dinner before arriving in Ballyvaughan, and only stayed for one night. We had a car, so it was easy for us to drive into the town centre from there. We would stay there again. We were given tips of sites to see when we left, and one we were glad not to miss was the Poulnabrone Portal tomb.Guest review byCarolCanada
