Birr castle is beautiful, as is the river walk but the best...
Birr castle is beautiful, as is the river walk but the best thing was the atmosphere in the thatch pub in crinkle. Emma's coffee shop does a decent cappuccino after a nice walk in the park. The county arms hotel is stunning and served delightful food.

Birr might be a small town but it (like many small Irish...
Birr might be a small town but it (like many small Irish towns) is full of history with plenty of places to eat and shop and a wonderful castle and grounds right in town. Everyone we met was so friendly and nice; we were even invited to stay with a local at their home if we wanted to return to the town in the future (in a serious way, not a casual "I'm-just-being-polite" kind of way). Because of it's central location, it's a good launch point for day-trips to other parts of Ireland as well with lots of natural and historical points of interest within a 30 min drive. My family had a wonderful time staying here.

We were in Birr for a wedding at the County Arms Hotel.
We were in Birr for a wedding at the County Arms Hotel. The food and service was excellent there, would definitely recommend it. Birr is a lovely town with the castle and lovely old buildings in the town.

Carmel was a wonderful host and made us feel so welcome.
Carmel was a wonderful host and made us feel so welcome. The room was very comfortable. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast with Carmel’s fabulous homemade soda bread and scones too! We loved exploring Birr and the Castle is fantastic.

Birr is a lovely town - we visited family and friends and...
Birr is a lovely town - we visited family and friends and spent some time exploring the town. We visited Birr Castle and gardens, which are spectacular. We were however disappointed that we could not visit the castle itself as it is a private residence. The town is very tidy and people are friendly.

We visited the castle grounds which were excellent and much better than we expected.
Town centre has everything and reasonable cafes. Lots of pubs but then it was Ireland! Restaurants a little harder to find.
Walks and good quiet cycling on your doorstep or a short drive.

The Ring Farmhouse is a comfortable home away from home. It’s in a scenic location very close to Birr and also handy if you need to attend an event at Gloster House. The absolute highlight was breakfast and Carmel’s baking - I would go back just for another of her scones!

Birr is a lovely town. The castle is amazing. Townshend house was really nice, in beautiful condition and very clean.
The tapas restaurant is a great space & very popular with guests. We will definitely go back again.

It was a lovely home right in the centre of Birr. A short walk from everything. The house was spacious and spotless throughout. Every appliance was easy to use and we had no issues at all.

Beautiful place to stay in Birr. So comfortable - and central. The castle is very close and a must visit if you are a astronomy buff. And love gardens.
