Calcutta or Kolkata is a city with contradictions.

Calcutta or Kolkata is a city with contradictions. It has intriguing colonial history. But going around Kolkata is a challenge. We loved the British structures around the city including the vibrant Part Street. A drink at Trinca's is a must. Food is varied and yummy esp. Bengali cuisine (Sonar Tori in Salt Lake mall is very good). It is called the City of Joy but the cleanliness could be much much better. People are warm and friendly. A cruise over river Hoogly is a must.

I always enjoy visiting Kolkata, the city where i grew up in my early adulthood. Kolkata, The city of joy provides a friendly atmosphere to anyone who visits here. The city is dotted with many sight seeing places of importance.

I am not sure that what I love about Kolkata is what will...

I am not sure that what I love about Kolkata is what will appeal to others. I love the variety, the vibrance, the unexpected, the kindness of the people towards me as a foreigner. Don't just visit the known tourist sites. There are quirky museums, buzzing night markets and parks that bring a breath of fresher air (and opportunities for bird watching) where people will want to chat to you and tell you about their India.

Kolkata is an exceptional city. To enjoy it, one has to have an open mind. It is a very crowded city and can be jarring sometimes. One has to look for hidden delights and tucked away gems. So explore.

This a very old city of mixed culture.

This a very old city of mixed culture. This is called "City of Joy". This is a very crowded city. But one should be careful while moving. Various restaurants with affordable price is available including street food. Convenience are cheap to move around. People in general are helpful to foreigners.

A lot to see and doing some guided tours recommended. It is hot, humid and possibly raining so need to pace yourself. If you're visiting during festivals it can be very busy. Highlights for us were the flower market, Howrah bridge and station, visiting the pandals during Durga Puja, the booksellers on College street and browsing the multiple markets and shopping malls (air conditioned.)

Location near Maidan Metro (6min walk) and Park St restaurants. Very good quality and variety of food in restaurant, efficient room service for food and beverages. Breakfast buffet was decent with both western and Indian options. Taxi to airport 550 INR, taxi from airport (Govt prepaid booth) 1,550 INR allow 30-50mins. Currency exchange available with poor rate offered but easy to complete inside hotel. Easy to order in-room dinning. Plenty of bottled water stocked in the suite.

We were put into an urgent situation by our overnight train journey Jaipur to Kolkata not being confirmed. We had to arrange a flight and an overnight accommodation . We picked this hotel because of 2 reasons: It said AIRPORT, and it said pay at the hotel. We have been advised by local friends to always inspect the room before paying. Additionally, we had experienced difficulty with online payments so far in our 9 week stay in India.

One of the best hotels I've stayed in in India: small, has a local feel, yet very comfortable and pleasant. Location is very central, but the building is inside a residential complex, away from a very busy street. I was safe, even when returning late at night; our group felt welcomed and cared for. Good breakfasts and the food in the evening is homemade and tasty. Very grateful to the managers and the staff!
