My partner and I stayed at Elda guesthouse in early June for just over a week and absolutely loved it. It suited us really well with it being good value for money and very close to the Myvatn lake (great if you're a keen wildlife photographer like my boyfriend or enjoy a long cycle/run like myself!) The staff were really friendly and helpful, working hard to prepare delicious breakfasts (including salads, meats, cheeses, yoghurts, croissants, pastries, bread etc) and keep the place clean and tidy. All the staff were so kind to us, for example preparing a little breakfast the night before our early morning flight for us. In terms of other amenities, the guesthouse had everything you need for self catering with an oven, fridge and cooking facilities. There is also a supermarket just a couple minutes walk away and a hotel just down the road where we sometimes went to enjoy an evening drink and a game of chess! I also hired a bike one day. Overall, we would highly recommend this place for people with similar interests and values to us :)

We visited all the famous sites The Thermal baths was great. A big area (and currently expanding). The restaurant there was very reasonably priced for Iceland. They made a great coffee. Food was good. Went to the geothermal site which was pretty amazing. We hiked up Hverfjall, theextinct volcano which was interesting. Went to Dentifoss and Selfoss which were very impressive We enjoyed our stay. Well worth a visit

I’m 2/3 of circumnavigating Iceland, and I have to say that this area is the weirdest landscape yet—in a good way. In a small area there are extinct volcanoes, steaming hillsides, lakes with strange lava 'islands', ethereal mountains…….. so strange. So beautiful. Highly recommended.

Spent a day and a half in the Lake Mývatn area. Loved it.

Spent a day and a half in the Lake Mývatn area. Loved it. There is so much to see and do: crater hikes, thermal baths, geothermal areas, bird watching, lava features. And just overall, it has beautiful views of farms and countryside. Both relaxing and exciting. Could easily spent another couple of days without it feeling repetitive.

A "must-visit" bird-watching location in northern Iceland, with great scenery and impressive geo-thermal sites near by. Lots of way-marked walking routes around the lake and several places to get food and shopping.

It's a beautiful lava field and lake system.

It's a beautiful lava field and lake system. Old volcanos and lava flows. Dimmuborgir is a legendary place where the Yule Lads sleep through the summer. Bear in mind that the summer can have hatches of midges. Krafla Power Station, active geothermal mud pools, Mývatn Nature Baths. If you travel in the winter it's a great place to see the Aurora as practically no light pollution. Obviously it's not as nice as Akureyri, but I would say that as I live there

This hotel was located in a great area for us to explore this part of Iceland. The hotel is a great option and I could not fault anything. Rooms are beautifully stylish and the whole hotel has been designed very well with stunning decor. The staff are friendly and helpful.

This is a beautiful hotel in an amazing location. The Lake Myvatn area around the hotel was everything we hoped for and more. The trails around the nearby lake offered excellent walking and hiking. The hotel is quite close to other area attractions including the Myvatn baths. The included breakfast was exceptional with more choices than one could hope to work through in a stay of several days. Dinner in the restaurant was also very good and service from hotel and restaurant staff was very good. We enjoyed our stay.

The room we booked was moderate and clean. We were lucky that there was a small balcony, it’s good enough to give us the chance to feel the fresh air around Mývatn area. The hotel is not far from the attractions around Mývatn, East & North Iceland, driving to Húsavík where you could do whale watching, to Goðafoss, to Dettifoss, are all within 1 hour. The view provided by the hotel restaurant is just great, and the breakfast selection is good

The location was perfect for visiting Myvatn hot bath (five minutes by car) and main lake Myvatn attraction. The hotel has new design furniture and is really comfortable. Two small hot pools are available. Please note that you can book directly at the reception desk your ticket for famous Myvatn hot bath with 10%. In the room there was a coffee machine.

Hearty, delicious breakfast with a warm touch - felt like family. The highlight of our stay! I saw some online posts about local insects in Lake Myvatn before leaving.
