the Pompeii ruins and its history was amazing added knowledge that i was not aware of. The displays were awesome and able to visualize how not see how civilization perished but also how it survived from its destruction. recommend taking a tour guide vs self walk ,unless ONE is an Historian and knowledgeable of its history in the period of civilization. Transport links, especially the trains were cheap and easy to find and allowed easy travel to Salerno, Sorrento and Herculaneum. Pompeii archeological site was only a 10 minute walk from our B&B and was a great experience. The train to Salerno was only €2.50 and a short walk took you to the harbour where we took a boat trip to Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento. I have an interest in ancient Roman history (from reading...
I have an interest in ancient Roman history (from reading the novel by Robert Harris) and on that basis I ended up spending two days at the site (not one as originally planned). I think even spending a full day there 9am-7pm would exhaust all but the most dedicated traveller, given the heat in peak Summer (when I travelled). Also, bring some decent footwear: the narrow paved areas on each side of the street mean you have to keep jumping off to walk along the road itself which has very irregular stones which are a trip hazard. Gets busy, lots of tour buses. I didn't go as part of an organised tour, but what I did get and found useful was the audio tour guide thing that you can purchase from the visitor centre office before you go in. This provides basic information on each building once you key in the number. There is water available on site that you can use to fill up a bottle. Cafe on site also but was so busy, I didn't even think of joining the queue. I paid the extra 6 Euro for the visit to the villas, outside the main site and thought it was worth it. In fact I couldn't believe that the building I was walking through was over 2000 years old, it looked from the outside like 50 years at the most.Guest review bygraham001United Kingdom - 10.0

Great facilities and a lovely balcony with a view too, very quiet and relaxing. The best bit though was the epic breakfasts by our host Sonia. Very delicious and needed before a long day walking round amazing Pompeii. Alfonso was also incredible and very accommodating picking us up from the station and also taking us to the ruins.
