In my opinion, staying in Scala and looking out onto Ravello is even more magical than staying in Ravello and looking out from it. The village is peaceful, authentic, and has everything you might need within easy reach — a grocery store, a pharmacy, a local hairdresser, and plenty of warmth from the locals. Despite its tranquility, Scala is home to some truly exceptional accommodations, especially Ravello View and Hotel Zi'ntonio, which offer comfort, hospitality, and those unforgettable vistas. I would highly recommend staying up above the Amalfi coast as it's more peaceful and you can drink in the views every morning and evening. The restaurants tend to be cheaper too. It's not always easy though getting down and back up from the more coastal areas, so think about how you are going to do that every day before choosing to stay somewhere like Pontone, Scala, Minuta etc.Guest review byAshleenaUnited Kingdom - 10

Scala is about 1/2 hour bus drive from Amalfi at a height of 360m. It is a nice and quiet village with various shops and italian bars. For a basic, relaxing holiday with the self-catering, local minimarkets and cafes it is perfect. The problem arises when you want to explore other areas as the public transport we found to be very difficult and stressful. We would recommend hiring a car (if you are brave enough for the roads) or relaxing into not exploring a huge amount. We loved Da Pietro Caffetteria in Scala. Amazing quality food all from the local area and very reasonably priced. Also, Da Nonno Alfonso in Ravello was incredible too. Such a cute little place with amazing pizzas and dessert. One to book in advance though. Our holiday was dampened by a lot of rain and thunderstorms so next time we would most likely avoid the time of year we visited (mid-September) and potentially try staying in Minori or Maori instead as these were beachfront with a greater variety of restaurants available - probably noisier and busier though.Guest review byCorinneUnited Kingdom

The Hotel is located in Scala, which is a very calm town and even though there are tourists, you wont be overwhelmed by the crouds, like in the other towns of the amalfi coast. The Staff is particularly very Polite and always ready to go the extra way to help you. Special mention to the shrimp risotto from the in-house restaurant, which is now my favourite dish. We had everything what we needed there, a wonderful view from our balcony and a typical very good breakfast with an amazing view too. The staff is very nice, but very outstanding is Carla. She is just the best. She gives you the best tips for the authentic side of the Amalfi coast and is so wonderful heartwarming. Thanks again for everything. I would definitely recommend walking to the next village of Minuta (only about 5 mins walk) from where you can see the whole of Amalfi.
