Colourful and Captivating
Overlooking the Bay of Naples and with views of the Vesuvius volcano, Sorrento is a colourful town in Campania. According to the Greek legend, it was the land of the sirens that had the power to enchant with their singing.
The town of Sorrento has gorgeous Renaissance and Baroque architecture, and a big variety of restaurants, shops and cafés. Built around the 11th century, the Romanesque Cathedral of Sorrento is the city’s most important landmark. The charming Bell Tower with the beautiful majolica clock is the first thing that you will notice.
The picturesque harbour of Marina Grande has some of the best restaurants in the city. Wander around during sunset and you will see fishermen cleaning their nets. Marina Piccola is the place to get a ferry to Capri, Amalfi and Naples.
Born in a garden of lemon and oranges, the traditional yellow liquor of limoncello is a unique aperitif or digestive drink. The mediterranean climate of Sorrento helps in the production of this famous refreshment.

If you're not planning for tours/trips, 1-2 days in Sorrento...
If you're not planning for tours/trips, 1-2 days in Sorrento will be fine. There are many restaurants and several streets lined with shopping/sites/etc. It's a beautiful town. If you want to take trips to the Amalfi Coast, Positano, Ravello, Capri, Pompei, etc., Sorrento is a great place to be based. (Just know the streets are cobblestone so dragging a piece of luggage is difficult. Add a few minutes getting to/from your lodging.) Taking a ferry from Naples Beverello (Molo) is likely a better option than a train or bus. The Naples port is only minutes away from the Napoli Centrale train station and will cost you around $15-20 for a taxi between the two.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Sorrento is a popular tourist town with a wide variety of places to eat and an ideal starting point to visit Capri, Pompeii, Herculaneum and other sites. The new Campagnia Artecard is not as flexible as the paper card, the 3 days one is best as it includes travel on the trains and buses, however if you have any connectivity issues with your mobile phone it is not good. We found that people with disabilities or limited mobility are not always provided for, younger travellers will not notice. The train station is around an 8 minute walk away from the Blue Coral Suites, with a great selection of restaurants. Sorrento is busy and bustling, full of family run restaurants and lovely shops. We experienced wonderful service in almost every place we went, with lots of humour and warmth. Sorrento is a great town.
Sorrento is a great town. Lots of shops, very good restaurants and pretty easy to get around. It's a great launching off area to explore other towns along the coast. Easy to book excursions, and if you're brave, rent a scooter and enjoy the town (I did!). Restaurants along the marina are good. The SkyLine bar in Marina Piccola was great. The cafe Le Sirene was terrific. A highly recommended trattoria is La Cantinaccia del Popolo, but it does not take reservations and a line forms just before opening at 6pm.
