We love Venice! This was our second visit.

We love Venice! This was our second visit. There is so much to see and we enjoyed just walking around and exploring! Of course, the gelato was fun! We had booked a walking tour with The Tour Guy which included San Marco and The Doges Palace and a 30 minute gondola ride. We were expecting rain, and were thrilled that the weather was clear.it was chilly though and a bit windy.i wore layers of tops and jackets. We went to Murano on Wednesday which was a fun trip and also visited the Leonardo da Vinci Interactive Museum, which we enjoyed. It was a wonderful 4 days.

We think 4 or 5 days would have been just right for seeing everything we wanted to see. With only two and a half days, we had to make some tough choices. Venice was wonderfully welcoming to my daughter - her UK Disability card gave both of us free access to every church, gallery and museum we visited. We wish we’d known this before we went.

Be prepared for lots of walking.

Be prepared for lots of walking. Whatever timescale Google Maps gives you, double it to account for the crowds (and distractions if you’re anything like us!). We’d definitely recommend walking around the sites both day and night as they’re beautiful in different lights and prebook EVERYTHING to avoid disappointment. Our highlights were: - just wandering getting lost. - a boat trip to Murano, Torcello and Burano. - climbing the bell tower on St Mark’s square (try and time this with sunset)

We really enjoyed our short trip to Venice.

We really enjoyed our short trip to Venice. So many little bridges and streets to walk round. The waterbus direct from the airport took 1 hour 20 minutes and was only 18 euros each. It was a nice way to arrive at St Marks square which was a short walk from our hotel. There are so many lovely shops and restaurants to choose from.

Even in the so-called shoulder season Venice is mobbed with tourists. Our first hours in and near San Marco square were very off-putting. BUT moving beyond San Marco the crowds really thin out. And when the experts say just walk, get lost and discover the Venice of the locals--they know what they're talking about. We always dined in smaller restaurants on small squares or narrow passages; they were busy with locals and tourists but offered quiet and a more personal touch. We found the opulence of the Doge Palace so over the top as to be off-putting. And be forewarned: once you start the tour there's no going back: and it's a long tour.

Too many sights, tastes and sounds to appreciate in three days, and too many places to visit in such a short time Walking was a pleasure even though the city was busy, added to by the absence of road vehicles. Water taxis & gondolas were a delightful way to see more and travel further. Murano glassworks, mask-makers, cichetti, cocktails in St Mark's Square - all made our visit memorable and made us want to return. Ciao la Serenissima
