we loved this boutique hotel so so so much. Although it is a little bit far from most things, the facilities and food and the hospitality from the owners have far exceeded our expectations and made up for everything! It is a 20+ year old building that the owners bought and renovated. Rooms are so clean and well kept, mattresses and pillows were comfortable. Although there were shared toilets (and this can be slightly troublesome), the toilets are fully automated and very clean. We had full board (breakfast and dinner) and we were here in summer. Food provided was excellent and cooked so well. The produce used were all from within the farm!!! (how much fresher can food be??) It was like 'farm to table' experience. Rice was from the vicinity too. Meats used were from Hokkaido. They even had a variety of natural wines (mostly imported) and a good variety of sake. We had very tasty sake. The owners also took a lot of effort in building a traditional (? Swedish) sauna and japanese bath. The water used was boiled using firewood in a traditional firewood stove?!! We both enjoyed these facilities very very much. We're sure this is even better during the peak of winter after skiing for a whole day. The owners (sorry I didnt get your names) were also such pleasant people and were very hospitable - this made the entire experience soo perfect. (tip: They are snowboarding coaches! they teach during winter season :) ) Thank you!! We will be back :) I will highly recommend this place to friends!

lovely little place with a fantastic owner. everything was super clean and ordered and the lady who ran it was charming. Very anxious to make sure that everything was good for us. It’s shared bathroom but there are two on different floors and not that many rooms so it was not an issue. The house is on the outskirts of town surrounded by countryside and very peaceful. We very much enjoyed staying here.

Pension Ken & Mary's hosts are absolutely wonderful people, kind, welcoming and extremely helpful in every possible way. We stayed for 4 nights to go skitouring in the area since it's perfectly located in between Asahidake, Furano and Horokanai. The host was so lovely and kind! Breakfast every morning was an absolute treat. The place was so cosy and quite. We took trips to fukiage onsen every other day which was magical. Although we drove, there is a train station right by the house which could allow for easy public transport. Overall this was by far the best airbnb I've ever stayed in. Thank you!

Biei was central for where we wanted to go - cycling to see...

Biei was central for where we wanted to go - cycling to see autumn leaves, Mt Asahidake Ropeway and Shirogane Blue Pond. One, there are a few bicycle rental shops in close proximity (all are similarly priced). Unless you are young and fit and ambitious, you will NOT be able to pedal the power-assisted bicycle to ALL the recommended places. We set aside 4 hours to comfortably visit 4 places. (Please set to the lowest assist mode if you want the battery to last for 4 hours). Two, the drive up to Mt Asahidake was magical as it started to snow. We were hoping it will not snow too heavily for the drive down. The snow was too blinding for even a short hike. (The forecast was accurate). Three, if one has the time, one should visit Shirogane Blue Pond in the daytime and night time. We arrived (5 pm) just as the last tourist bus was leaving. Twenty minutes are ample for a few rounds of the night lighting.

Travel books and blogs talk of Biei's famous Blue Pond, Shiragano Waterfalls, Takushinkan, various famous trees and observatories. But Biei is much more than that. It is a perfect scenic, serene getaway from busy city life. You don't actually need to plan and follow your itinerary to the point. Just roam around, whether on bicycles or in a rented car. Soak in the brisk air. Fumble into random cafes and restaurants. Biei is just so humble and modest, and yet very satisfying.

We loved our friendly hosts and their family, nothing was too much trouble, they were so kind and helpful, a delicious breakfast each morning and with ideas for exploring and the loan of their electric bikes, wonderful biking around the countryside. Biei is a perfect small town, easy to get around, great restaurants. We drove to Asahidake and despite a cloudy light rain day we loved a day hike to Susodaira Valley and on towards Nakodake Onsen, afterwards a divine soak at Asahidake Onsen. Arigato

We had a lovely stay at the apartment in Biei. The apartment is very spacious and comfortable, and has all the amenities you need and more. The beds are extremely comfy. Also, the location is great for discovering the area (we had a car), and there are many shops, restaurants, a big supermarket and a few convenient stores in a walking distance. The owner went out of their way to make the check-in process as easy as possible. Would love to come back again when visiting the area.

The host is so nice and welcoming! She wants you to feel good in her house and make sure you have everything you need. She also nicely offered to pick me up and drop me off at the train station (the house is a little bit outside the town center). It was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good. I really enjoyed staying there even if it was only for one night. It is much more personal than many other places/hotels where I stayed. Great experience. Thanks again!

Family friendly. Buffet has thoughtful area for young children to self serve themselves with food. Sledding is provided as there’s a small slope behind. Be careful though as it’s a carpark. Behind the hotel has a beautiful waterfall. Nice breakfast and dinner buffet spread.
