The staff were helpful and accommodating, we'd like to thank Hiro especially who called the public bus office of his own initiative to make sure buses were going to be available during the holidays in isolated areas. The outdoor private onsen was enjoyable during winter. Futons in the nice rooms were great and blankets big and fluffy. Yunomine Onsen is a small town with very few dining options, it seems other guest houses offer meals with the stay (there was only 1 restaurant open during our December visit). J-Hoppers sells some ready-to-eat packaged food and offers rice and coffee for free. The common dining area is also a nice place to sit and relax.

The guesthouse is a gem in the Kumano river valley and the host is the kindest of all! You'll have direct access to the open-air onsen in the river, which was an awesome experience! The Japanese-style room was impeccable and charming and the shared facilities were clean and functional. The host is welcoming and friendly. Due to miscommunication we didn't get the dinner at the guesthouse and to apologize for it he offered us breakfast, which was delicious. He also upgraded our room free of charge due to other guests cancelling their booking the same day.

The location is perfect. It's just 10 meters from Kawayu onsen. The dinner was really tasty and the staff is super friendly. Moreover, there are two free private onsens indoor. This is a small cozy guesthouse and a wonderful place to rest after a long hiking day.

The hotel is a great base to explore Kumano Kodo. Location is excellent - at the heart of Kumano Kodo, near Hongu, right on the main bus line, great for hikes. The hotel has very nice Japanese style family rooms, with great views of nature. Dinner (kaiseki - tasting style) was fantastic and very good value for money. Breakfast also rich (you can choose Japanese and western). Bonus - the hotel also has own "onsen" - Japanese hot bath, including two private family rooms and two big open air bath. Using the onsen is included in the room price. Moreover, staff is very helpful, speak solid English and will take you to with a shuttle to a better bust stop for the ride to the Kumano Kodo trek.

The staff were lovely and very helpful before and during our stay. The house is spacious and scrupulously clean. The beds are very comfortable, and the bath is worth the wait to fill with hot spring water. We enjoyed the free snacks and instant noodles for a no fuss dinner. The Kawayu Onsen bus stop is a few meters away, making transport easy. Soaking in the river hot springs is a short walk away. We would definitely stay here again.

A cute house in an isolated area. Very quiet, with a hill in the back and a river in the front. There are table and chairs, and a barbecue stove outside. In the house, there is a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom . You need to make your own bed.

You can walk the final stages of the Nakahechi trail from...

You can walk the final stages of the Nakahechi trail from Hosshinmon-oji to Hongu Taisha from this area. About 7km. Buses run the area so you can bus to the start, walk the trail then bus back. The road station is well stocked. I recommend the Kumono Kodo beer.
