The hotel is simple but very clean and elegant, the rooms are spacious compared to other hotels across Japan, the staff were extremely helpful and went the extra mile to help us out, the location is amazing with only a 10 minute walk from Nishiki market, and around 10 minutes walking to the old Gion district. Would definitely book it again!

IT WAS FANTASTIC!!! Everything was so perfect! The staffs were friendly and thoughtful. From the moment we arrived at the hotel, all the warm welcome, nice hot tea served while check-in, to the staff led us to the room and introduced all the facilities, breakfast area, checking the room temperature for you. They took care of all the details. It was far beyond my expectations. My room was a city view room, but it was way better than I expected. The view was facing a park, and the park had a beautiful maple tree out there and it was red leaves maple tree. What a beautiful coincidence! The zen-vibe room paired with the view, it was perfect. That's what I was looking for during the maple tree season when I visited Kyoto. Breakfast was great. Many choices out there. From traditional Japanese food to Western dishes, everything was tasty. You could also order dishes from the menu if you would like. We also went to the swimming pool, that was really nice too. The water temperature was comfortable, the pool was spacious. It also comes with sauna and a hot water tub, which is great for relaxing. I've recommended Dusit Thani to my friends already. It was a really great experience. I will definitely come back! If I travel to other places where there is a Dusit Thani hotel, I would like to stay and experience it again!

We have stayed at nearly 20 different hotels over the last few years of travelling to Japan, but this has been the best one yet! - Location is perfect, as it is situated on a quiet street so we always felt well rested, but only a 5 minute walk to Nishiki Market, Life supermarket, and plenty of shopping, department stores, and restaurants within walking distance. We barely needed to take public transit - Very clean and calming atmosphere, right from the moment you step in. Everything is thoughtfully and tastefully decorated and designed with comfort, quality, and elegance in mind. Even the hotel bathrooms were stunning and spotless! - Hotel amenities were excellent! Elevators were nearly instant as there are fewer guests in a boutique hotel. The lounge was the best we’ve ever experienced, with a generous selection of snacks and drinks in a quiet and relaxing environment - Rooms are very spacious and had plenty of space for luggage. Bathrooms are beautifully appointed and feel like a spa - ample counter space, split bathroom design, and relaxing rain shower - Small thoughtful details show a commitment to quality, such as plush slippers, high quality teas from our favourite Ippodo Tea in the room - Staff was so wonderful and treated us with so much warmth and consideration! They moved our luggage to our rooms for us prior to us checking in, and even helped my mother in law prepare fruit for us! We have never experienced service that went above and beyond like this - thank you very much for making our trip so wonderful and memorable, our whole family is grateful! We hope to stay here again soon!

I loved Kyoto, with one exception - the crowds.

I loved Kyoto, with one exception - the crowds. We were in a lot of cities on our trip (Tokyo, Hakone, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh etc.) and nothing compared to the crowds in Kyoto. Its a lovely city and the temples are beautiful, but the tourists (not lost on me that we were tourists) were insane. We felt badly for those from Kyoto. We did a few walking tours and those guides were amazing and could steer us (somewhat) away from the crowds.

I suggest taking a day trip one at a time. We tried putting 2-3 attractions a day but we always ended up spending more time in one area just to enjoy and really appreciate the area.. So, Spend a day, relax and don't rush and enjoy the beautiful areas of Kyoto/Kansai

Kyoto is a wonderful place, though at times it can feel a bit reserved toward outsiders. But given how traditional the city is, it’s understandable. As visitors, we also hope to respect the local culture and help preserve the beauty of this place.

Kyoto is a walking city, so make sure you bring very comfortable shoes. It's also very tourism-centric, so prices are adjusted to match. It's not super expensive by Western standards, but if you're coming from Hiroshima or anywhere in Kyushu, expect a significant bump in your costs. There's also a layer of artifice over most of the customer service interactions. Where a shop owner in Tottori may be delightful or unpleasant depending on their individual disposition, almost everyone you interact with in Kyoto is just slightly too nice in a way that reminds you that they know you'll be gone in a few days and your money will be going with you.

Kyoto is a place where can absorb as much time as you could spend, lovely gardens, magnificent temples, ancient streets, wonderful food... Food was one of the highlights, of course! We had nice lunches in Rokkaku Kitchen 109, Kajiya. They are right next door. Both were excellent. The finale was Kaiseki dinner at Minokichi Karasuma Shijo, founded in 1716, and described as one of the "eight licensed restaurants to serve fresh-water fishes" under the Edo-period Kyoto government. The Kaiseki was epic!

Kyoto is a very busy city and very popular with foreign tourist. it has a great transportation and the taxis are reasonably priced. Kyoto has modern supermarkets, which was unexpected. There are many sites to see; we took advantage of the Ayurveda clinic in town for massages and deep rest. It was our second visit there.

I booked a single room with shared bathroom. The room was very small but it was no surprise for Japan :) The restroom was very clean, the staff friendly, the breakfast was offered in a café nearby, just 30 steps from the hotel. It might not be the best one in town, but sufficient to start the day with energy :) The hotel is quiet and yet in a good position, not so far from Gion, has shopping facilities not far away and is at walking distance from the station (more or less 20 minutes or a subway stop)
