Walking on socks and yukatas is great!!! Breakfast was amazing. Onsen, was really nice as well, both men and women. Room was quite big for Japan. 6min walk from the train station! I will for sure recommend and return when possible. View from our room was also great and the sound isolation is very good.

Takai the owner was sooooo helpful, it made all the difference to my stay in Matsumoto. I loved the book he made describing the different restaurants and what their specialities were. So much love and hard work have gone into making this place special. Takai was patient and answered all of my questions and went out of his way to help me. I am very grateful for his kindness and consideration. Lots of eating and drinking places are only a few minutes away as is the castle. It's also only about 15 minutes walk from the station so even with a suitcase I could walk here.

The offer of toiletries to take to the onsen, bikes to cycle round the city and free washing facilities made it such an easy place to stay without hidden extra costs. The kitchen was well kitted out. Staff and other travellers very friendly.

Excellent location! With a little onsen but they have everything you need, even hair essence and facial masks for women. You can get the supplies like lotion/face wash from the counter. It is very thoughtful that we can check the crowdiness of the onsen from the TV at the room. In the morning, they provide free coffee to go at the lobby.

This hotel had a very professional feel to it, and the staff were friendly and helpful at all times. A very comfortable bed in a room with that extra bit of space that one so appreciates in Japan, both in the room itself and the bathroom. I'd happily stay again another time.

The room was really comfortable and has everything you need! Great value for money! Location was perfect. We decided to go for the breakfast buffet downstairs and paid 1200 yen p.p. and it was really good! I had a Japanese breakfast but there was enough choice for a western breakfast.

A nice and quiet city with a lot to offer.

A nice and quiet city with a lot to offer. A good base for a day trip to Kamikochi which is a fantastic hiking place. Driving around the city is nice with alps on the backdrop. Matsumoto city alps park is a great place for activities and hangout. Tower of beauty has fantastic mountain views and panoramic scenery. Visit the wasabi farm for interesting and nice wasabi products. Last but not least, the beautiful Matsumoto castle, which will light up at night.

I enjoyed the castle and Kamikochi (bus tour with Snow Monkey Resorts), Nawate Market Street, museum, cultural experience (at Mukugean) and Aeon Mall. I stayed for 3 nights but wish I'd stayed longer to allow time for the City Alps Park and some other day trips.

We really liked Matsumoto and it was a much more fun and interesting city than we expected. We had an overnight stay, largely to visit the famous castle, after visiting Kiso valley. Would happily have stayed longer.

If you are considering buying something from bookoff in...

If you are considering buying something from bookoff in another city, make sure you visit the one in the Alpico plaza first. They are cheaper than the ones in Osaka. There’s a yakiniku place that’s really good but I can’t remember the name but it’s not far away from the matsumo station. For anyone wanting to visit kamikochi in this rainy season, I suggest you get a hotel here and just book a bus ticket for kamikochi the night before visiting so you’ll know for sure what kind of weather you’ll be dealing with. Also, if you haven’t visited Narai-juku, check it out and complete the trail, you’ll be more than amazed.

Matsumoto castle was beautiful, especially lit up at night. The Kasuma Yayoi gallery was impressive, with a really nice courtyard and cafe for lunch or a drink. Nakamichi street has really interesting architecture; with very quaint shops including one serving delicious shaved ice desserts!

l love the small cosy Matsumoto nothing like other big cities. it has its own charm and the food was great. the people are warm and friendly in spite of language barrier. staying near the station was a plus making our hopping from place to place an easy task. delighted to visit Wasabi Farm and enjoyed wonderful time taking beautiful pictures. Got a chance to enjoy Wasabi ice-cream too, just disappointed that we missed the harvest of wasabi onsite. Hope to visit again and explore further.

When we arrived at the ryokan it was snowing and cold in Matsumoto. Our host immediately gave us towels and helped us feel welcome. She showed us around the ryokan. It was clean, warm, comfortable. The beds were like sleeping on clouds. The rooms were clean and it was wonderful sleeping in a traditional Japanese house. The shower was hot and powerful. The ryokan is located on a pretty road (Nakamachi Dori) with lots of interesting shops and restaurants. One of our favourite stays on this trip.

Very modern hotel conveniently located close to the train station. The room was bigger than we were used to in Japan and it even included a small seating area. The check-in was a bit busy due to a larger group arriving, but the friendly staff and the complementary drinks/coffee that are available in the hotel more than made up for that! The many amnities made this hotel excellent value for money!

Just one night at this lovely hotel , perfectly situated for Matsumoto Castle and Nawate Street (Frog Street) - both within very short walking distance. Room was very comfortable with all amenities and the staff were helpful and friendly. We took breakfast which had a wide variety of Western and Japanese foods - we enjoyed it. Would happily stay here again.

This hotel exceeded our expectations. Looks brand new, super clean, friendly staff, beautiful rooms. It feels like a Japanese inn but super comfortable as a hotel. Onsen is very nice, unfortunately because of the screens there is no view of the beautiful mountains from the bath. Close to Matsumoto station and downtown.

The hotel is right next to Matsumoto station, and about 10-12 minuet walk from Matsumoto castle and meseum , about 8-10 mineuts walk to Nawate street, and there are many restaurants and conbini nearby. The room was simple but good, the Japanese breakfast was exelent and I enjoyed my stay.
