Fantastic hotel in a lovely little town. Both the hotel, and Tsuwano itself, exceeded all expectations. I travel around slightly-off-the-beaten-track spots like this in Japan a lot and try to find charming little ryokans or minshukus that are value for money. Don't think I've ever found a better one than this. From the entrance it is clear you're entering a place that's punching above its weight. It looks much nicer than you'd expect for the price. Turned up early and the friendly staff were more than happy to let me check in early and make use of the facilities which include a very nice little rooftop bath (rotenburo) and - remarkably - free drinks, including whiskey and shochu, in the little area on the ground floor from 5pm. The hotel place was spotless (it looks very new) and the Japanese-style breakfast was very nice indeed. I'l definitely visit Tsuwano again one day, and I'll definitely stay here.

Spacious tatami room in a ryokan in Tsuwano. It is conveniently located around 1 minute’s walk from Tsuwano Station with restaurants and shops also nearby. Breakfast and dinner were great, and the staff are very welcoming and helpful, letting me know about a local Iwami kagura performance during my stay.

Everything. The reception area , bar/restaurant area ( absolutely no food smell whichever fantastic!! ) and the Onsen area are lovely. Our room was fantastic, super clean, all you need and very stylish and the bed super comfortable. Wonderful linen and amenities with a thoughtful concern for the environment. Never been in a hotel like this before. And I liked it. First of all, the staff. They are all very kind. Second, the location. Great views! Funky design. And frankly, there are not many hotels in that area. So we were intrigued by the high rating on Booking.com at such a low price. And we found out the concept is actually quite cool - literally! You can eat whatever you feel like. There is a relatively small buffet of freshly prepared stuff. And then there is a virtually endless supply of frozen food, which you can microwave and/or grill on the spot. To boot, there is a huge selection of (alcoholic) drinks, free of charge too.

The rooms are quite small, but very comfortable. Also, since it's the cheapest place in Masuda, it's the best place to stay if you're on a budget. The complimentary breakfast is great and the staff is wonderful. I accidentally overslept past the check-out time and the staff were very kind about it. Even though the bathrooms are shared, they are very clean and well-kept. There is also a bowling alley, karaoke, and a movie theater in the same building. Only about a 10 minute walk from Masuda Station. I highly recommend staying here.
