Food was wonderful, such a great quality of ingredients, so filling, and totally worth it for the price. The place was amazing and calm, and both the private bath, and the family one was clean, comfortable and great. The location is really close also to the lake, and the main street to explore during the day. Futon was really comfortable, and they provided a kotatsu since it was really cold outside. It was a dreamy traditional japanese stay.

This is THE best place in Yufuin. It was really easy to check in. Yes it's a bit further away from the city centre which makes it a bit more difficult to get to if you don't have a car (you can walk it or take a taxi up there) but it has the most epic view of the mountain. There are two onsens that everyone at the hotel can use, but they are effectively private as once you are in them you lock the door and you can have them to yourselves. The water is fantastic. Refreshing and makes you feel very relaxed. I would stay here at the drop of a hat again. Also make sure you walk up to Oogosha shrine (only 5 mins away) where you can get the experience of visiting a HUGE cedar tree temple and a bamboo forest that is 10x better than Arashiyama.

We love the private hot spring inside our room. It is super comfortable and we can enjoy it anytime throughout the day. The room is spacious and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. If you come with car, this is a perfect location for stay. We really love this place.

Tomitaka San is a really friendly and gracious host and made us feel really welcome! All the structures were very beautifully designed and exudes a lot of charm. Although weather was cold, the heating was very good and we felt very comfortable throughout. Dinner and breakfast were simply delicious!

The design and beautiful trees facing the room including a plant in the room. The garden where pre dinner is served is beautiful. Details such as bathroom can access to the onsen pool and every details made the stay rejuvenating The amenities in the room are great including the ice cream and sweets . What a lovely hidden gem! A beautiful wooden house with multiple rooms and all the facilities you need for a very comfortable stay. The owner is very nice and helpfull and speaks English. The location is peaceful, in the mountains along a wide river and it is easy to navigate to nearby convenience stores, restaurants and hot springs.

Very very very convenient location, just few steps a way from yufuin bus terminal. Next to the hotel is Unagi rice restaurant. Hotel equipped with private onsen and sauna, though small but just nice, no complaint. Hotel has in house cafe too. Room is super spacious and with superb nice vibe. Love it love it love it ! Will stay here again if return to Yufuin next time.

Such a cute town with a ton of character and really exceptional local businesses. Even though it’s rural we had very upscale experiences at a local bar (Bar Stir) and sake tasting room with a foot bath inside!! I would have loved to stay longer!

Morning walk along the waterway when there were not many tourists was peaceful and enjoyable. The are lots of small shops on the main street, but might be too crowded to enjoy. The shops close around 5pm. My favorite eating place was Pizzeria Kunugi no Oka; good food and good view of the Yufu city.

A fabulous place to chill and relax. Restaurants are great. Shopping is fun. You get to enjoy nature anywhere you go. But for drivers who are not used to narrow and winding roads, you need to be extra careful

We went to Yufuin and Beppu, Yufuin by the touristy train (...

We went to Yufuin and Beppu, Yufuin by the touristy train (book a month earlier and reserve your seats!), then we took the bus from Yufuin to Beppu and did the onsen tours on our own by bus. Not much to do in Beppu other than the onsens, perhaps go to other nearby places too.

Excellent location.

Excellent location. Not far from Fukuoka and we drive all the way from the airport within 2 hours. Best retreat so far and we will definitely go back in different seasons. Driving to places are simple and easy. Can go to mountain hike or the lake areas.

A very lovely town.

A very lovely town. But too many tourists during the weekend. Too many Korean tourists, which quite some of them are lack of manners, speaking too too loudly, taking pictures everywhere, dominating the roads while walking with groups...

Had the most amazing stay at Oyado Hananoyu. The inn is a little bit far from the station, so the staff can pick up and drop you off. My room was so comfortable and spacious, I loved the private onsen it came with. I was served an extremely generously sized dinner and breakfast. To top it off, the owner has the sweetest little dog who I got to play with. The price is unbeatable as well. Will absolutely stay here again if I'm in Yufuin.

Very traditional ryokan hospitality. The room we stayed at the property was authentic and traditional mattresses that were surprisingly comfortable. The meals are excellent kaiseki dinners that came with free roaming local chicken and wagyu BBQ/yaki, and breakfast was just so good. And of course we had 3 private onsen pools to use to the max 😅, include 2 outdoor overlooking Yufu and Yufuin town.

It was a nice ryokan with nice staff and also has very cute resident pets - a dog and 2 cats. There are various private onsens to choose from and we could check their availability on line. The room was spacious and comfortable. Nice grounds. There is a coffee machine in the lobby, The ryokan was about a 10 min or so walk from Yufuin Station.
