The breakfast was excellent, and the air conditioned two-person room was really comfy, clean and cosy (although some might consider it on the tiny side). We both liked the location, which was easily reachable with a heavy backpack from the trainstation in about 10 to 15 minutes. Super-helpful staff, very chill lounge, really liked that you could grab a beer yourself, note it down, and take a seat to work a bit. Exceeded my expectations. Parks were close by with easy access to have a walk. Has potential to function as a temporary work-place on holiday for sure. And ofcourse Valkenburg looks like a blend of the Aveyron and Bruges, which is awesome.

This is a wonderfully restored 19th century villa, decorated with great taste. Super location, 5 minutes from the train station. Large spacious bathroom. Fine linens. Karen who is in charge of housekeeping and breakfast is marvellous. The room was spotless. Breakfast was a dream with plenty of everything - fresh fruit, wonderful breads, eggs, bacon, and everything else one could desire. I intend to go again next year.

Absolutely fantastic hotel with the Christmas market right on the doorstep. Can't fault anything about this place. Nicely decorated room with lots of space, great ensuite power shower with really lovely toiletries, comfy bed, lots of choice for breakfast, secure parking available behind the hotel at a good price, great facilities, friendly and helpful staff. In a great area at the side of the river with lots of restaurants, cafes and bars within walking distance. The Christmas market in the caves are amazing and are well worth a visit only 8 mins walk from the hotel. Easy walking for all ages and fitness. Will definitely go here again. No complaints from us at all.

Holland's High Point

A small pocket of land that includes Valkenburg in the southern Limburg province of the Netherlands contradicts the flat landscape we usually associate with The Lowlands of Holland. This former fortified city includes historic Valkenburg Castle ruins and the hilly terrain is terrific for mountain biking and nature walks.

The neo-Gothic train station is the oldest existing of any in the Netherlands and links Maastricht with the German city of Aachen. The city’s appeal is magnified during the annual Valkenburg Christmas Market held in the manmade Velvet Cave, a disused marlstone mine used for making local buildings.

Nearby is the 3-country point where The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany come together, and on the Dutch side there is a plaque marking the location of the highest point in Holland. Many other castles such as Schaloen and Geulzicht make interesting day trips into the Geul Valley countryside.

    Absolutely perfect.

    Absolutely perfect. Good eating, drinking,entertainment, views, architecture,rail service, shops. Everything. Visit The Caves and walk the walls around the old Town. Oh, and visit Henry VIII pub, especially when the geriatric (kidding) dj is on.

    Just a rather passable hotel, not particularly worth the price that it cost to stay there. The bed was comfy, the mini fridge didn't work at all, and staff were rather unfriendly / avoidant of us. It says on google that breakfast comes included, though it does not.

    Lovely place to visit the caves housing the christmas markets are great. Feel like there should have been more hospitality positions inside the caves, but there are many cafes/restaurants and pubs in abundance outside, too many to choose from! The people are really pleasant and helpful, all in all a great place to visit without driving around, pedestrianised streets with all the restaurants are brilliant. Heaters & blankets in almost all the restaurants and christmas lights allover make it a special place to visit

    When looking at the pictures and websites I thought this was going to be a magical visit. Truth is they call this (Unofficially) Christmas town. Sorry but overall this was over rated and a disappointment.

    At Christmas time so nice.

    At Christmas time so nice. Not too big or too small ,just right. Nicely decorated. A lot of restaurants and friendly staff. Not a tourist trap feeling. Friendly people. Nice old buildings and all close together and you can walk every where. Nice nature in the area.

    We can highly recommend the Hotel Le Baroudeur in Valkenburg. We spent 3 nights in the deluxe apartment which is beautifully appointed. This was a perfect base from which to wander into Valkenburg and enjoy the charming restaurants and cafes plus the many historical buildings and fit in some cycling. The beds were very comfortable. I seldom sleep that well the day before an event! Yvonne and Ivano are perfect hosts. We will return!

    Very nice centrally located hotel in Valkenburg a/d Geul. We had the junior suite which was spaceous and comfortable. Dogs are welcome in the hotel except for the restaurant area (understandable). The friendly staff at check-in suggested to have breakfast at the outdoor seating area in the morning where the dog could join - which was a great alternative as the sun was out.

    Beautiful location, charming views on the castle and surrounding nature. Very nice garden/terrace. Oasis of peace. And this all just +/- 15 min walk from the centre of Valkenburg (4-5 min by car). The living room was small, but felt cosy and was ok for family of 3. Good coffee and every day fresh pie 🥧 at the brasserie.
