Staff were exceptionally helpful. The stand in manager Mike went above and beyond. He drove us to the port when our transport failed to arrive, stopped the boat for us and although offered money for his time and trouble he would not accept it as he advised he was there to help. THANK YOU MIKE you are indeed a legend.

Perfect location and beautiful view, comfortable bed. The owner was very kind and allowed me to dine in the restaurant which is connected to the hotel. I came very late and was very hungry, so I really appreciate the effort and the thought.

Very close to everything in Kirkenes. Beautiful view of the sea from the apartment. And the host was very welcoming! He gave us a little tour of the city and the Russian border. Very pleasant stay - both the host and the accommodation.

The location is convenient to the port for cruise boat access and an easy walk into the village - it is on a hill with good views of the surrounding countryside and to the sea. The apartment is fully modernized well outfitted for preparing meals and comfortably furnished. The owners responded promptly to questions about transport and even booked a taxi for me. They are very kind and thoughtful.

Small town with great history.

Small town with great history. It revolves around tourist, so thankful that the museum was open on Sunday. As I did not join tours, I find 3 days was more than enough. The tour agency for Russian border stated having tours at in the afternoons however did not approve my request and insist that I book a private tour or join the morning tour (together with the tourists from the cruises). I did not want as my mother just arrived from the cruise after 7 days, and she wants to rest first. I ended up booking a taxi and the price is the same. The taxi driver brought us to both Russian borders (old and new), let us spend time and help us take pictures. The price was standard (NOK1,600) for an hour. What is lacking is probably a tour guide to explain things. But that is OK. Kirkenes has a great view but lack good viewing points (well, I did not find any...). I found a randomly shared viewing point up a hill which was good but not the best. Must visits - Andersgrotta (Daily, 12.30pm tour, NOK300 per person), Borderland Museum, Russian Border, and see the pictures in town by Ellisif Wessel.

There is more to see than you think, particularly if you are interested in history. We had a day to see the sites before taking the Hurtigruten Coastal Express to Bergen. We could have used a second day, or at least another half day. You need to be fit and a good walker because it's easier than using the local public transport. Things really worth seeing are the Borderland Museum, Savio Museum, Andersgrotta and Liberation Monument, the Russian Consult General Building and the protest opposite, statues, monuments and the Snowhotel. We had a nice meal at Surf and Turf.

This town is not very inspiring.

This town is not very inspiring. We came off the Hurtigruten Ferry and ended up having 2 full days here, because we had to wait for our transfer to Inari in Finland. It is a bit desolate. Few shops, or choices to eat. Suggest one day, and move on

Small town geared for tourists, so everything is close by.

Small town geared for tourists, so everything is close by. Mall, small grocery store, lots of restaurants and cafes and the taxis and busses all stop at one of the two main hotels (Thon or Scandic). 95% of the activities are at the Snowhotel or are run by the Snowhotel (but quite $$$ as you are in the Arctic). Bring plenty of layers and all your money.

We stayed at the Kirkenes Lodge which is very conveniently centrally located. Easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. Walking through the neighborhood with very charming homes, kept in very good condition. It had the feeling of home. The war museum is very moving. Don’t miss it.

Found this to be a much more interesting town than I expected. Driver of airport bus was excellent telling us about various things to do, which was great as we had limited time. His helpful advice meant we were able to do a tour of Andersgrotto (wartime underground bunker) and learn about what the citizens went through being caught up in the battle between the Soviet Union and the occupying Germans. We also enjoyed the museum, a tour through the amazing snow hotel, feeding reindeer and seeing the huskies, as well as wandering the town centre and seeing the excellent display of photos in the square. However, we were between seasons for some of the other tours that would normally be available so it would certainly be possible to need a few more days to do some of those other things at another time (eg, northern lights in the winter months and dog sledding, plus some other excursions available only in the summer months).

Was initially hesitant to stay here due to cost, and soooo glad we went for the unique experience. What a treat! We stayed in the cabin and this was perfect as we were hunting the Northern Lights, which we could see from the cabin (we did a lot of outdoor viewing too). A Magical experience. Our friend stayed in the Snow hotel (ice rooms) and did a husky ride which he says is a lifetime highlight. Cabins are beautifully designed. Would stay here again, and for at least 2 nights. What a wonderful experience.

Lovely apartment and ideally situated, right near the bus-stop for bus from airport - we were dropped off outside after arriving in Norway at Kirkenes airport. Very near an enormous supermarket selling everything and including a burger and coffee bar. 6 minutes away from Hurtigruten terminal. Very near a great indoor swimming-pool and easy to walk all around this charming town from the apartment, too. All great!

The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of Kirkenes, easily accessible by bus from the airport and about a 20 minute walk from the cruise ship dock. The staff were friendly and the room was quiet and clean. The local museum is well worth a visit.

Right in town, and came by shuttle from the airport. Room and bedding was dated but clean and comfortable. Handy Asian restaurant downstairs, and a useful shared kitchen. Ice cave and tunnels to see before cruise to Bergen.
