Everything was lovely and the views from the unit were amazing. Our bedroom was great with a comfortable king bed and great shower/bathroom. Everything was very clean and the hosts were very friendly without being intrusive. We were the only guest so had the common area to ourselves as well and enjoyed the excellent included continental breakfast. Highly recommend The Salty Bushman for your stay in The Catlins.

I found Kaka Point had a lovely peaceful community vibe.

I found Kaka Point had a lovely peaceful community vibe. The weather turned during my short stay there, but that didn't spoil my walk out to the lighthouse at Nugget Point. It was extremely windy with very rough seas, which made me appreciate how hard shipping must have been back in the day.

Beautiful spot in the Catlins. Lovely beach and forest walk. A stones throw throw from the Nugget Point Lighthouse and Roaring Bay penguin hide. Great affordable accommodation at Nugget View Kaka Point Motel and celiac friendly dinner at The Point Restaurant and Bar.

Kaka point is a perfect base for visiting the Catlins if you...

Kaka point is a perfect base for visiting the Catlins if you have a week because then you can make day trips to the many waterfalls, beaches, lighthouses and historical sites without rushing or getting exhausted. Kaka point itself is peaceful and wildly beautiful at this time of year but you need to go prepared as there is no proper store and only one eating venue which is quite expensive.

The whole of the Catlins is a treat for locals and international travellers alike. Be captivated by the beauty of the landscape and wildlife, while soaking up the quaint, sleepy town feel of Kaka Point. New Zealand has wonderful wildlife and environmental protection laws for native flora and fauna. If you're looking for an ethical way to see animals in nature, this is the way to do it. Please respect the laws and rules about Interacting with any animals or scenery - this ensures it is a place to treasure for years to come.

A lovely beach with a cafe/shop/restaurant so ideal for...

A lovely beach with a cafe/shop/restaurant so ideal for families. Easy to reach nugget point from there. Bear in mind it’s at the eastern end of the Catlins so if you want to explore places further west, eg Curio Bay, you will have quite a drive. On the other hand Balclutha is only a 15 min drive which is handy for stores and food shopping.

Beautiful location and very close to Nugget Point Lighthouse which is a must see for all travellers. Would have liked to stay longer and try swimming. The beaches looked very inviting. Clifftop views around the lighthouse are breathtaking

I would say that Kaka Point Views was one of the best accommodation I have had the pleasure to stay in. The view was out of this world.. Cleanliness of the apartment was exceptional, so well appointed with everything there. Clean towels after one night was unexpected. I would highly recommend this venue.

Coming to Kaka Point for the second time, I didn't hesitate to choose this apartment again. It was still as warm and clean as before. The next morning, I met the landlord and had a brief chat. He was also a gentle and friendly person. It's undoubtedly the top choice for accommodation in Kaka Point.

Mike was a really friendly host. He took the time to teach us about the town and the likelihood of seeing the aurora Australis. The room is beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean, and of course kaka point is a beautiful sleepy beach town.
