My experience with the Brown Pub was really great. Nice, cozy room and good, clean showers. The kitchen is small but nice and has everything you need to prepare smaller meals. The staff is very friendly. Will definitely come back when I'm in the area.

Methven is a little gem of a town set in stunning surroundings with plenty on offer in both summer and winter. The Opuke thermal pools are a must do and have previously done the hot air ballooning which is a definite highlight of the area. There's a good selection of eating options for both day and night. We ate at Baileys Irish pub and loved the food. Methven is a great option for a weekend getaway from Christchurch without having to go too far to enjoy some R&R.

Methven is a good base for exploring, viewing the southern...

Methven is a good base for exploring, viewing the southern alps, the Rakaia Gorge and close enough to visit the Staveley Station Cafe for lunch or morning tea. The 4 Square in town is well stocked and the staff are lovely. As an outdoor painter, there is a lot of inspiring scenery to paint.

A great little town with so much to offer.

A great little town with so much to offer. The Blue Pub had great food suitable for all the family's tastes. Everything you could want is available in the town. Lots of activities to do and the Opuke Pools are a must. We had the kids with us so didn't get to experience the adults only side of things where private pools and dining are available.

Opuke Thermal Pools & Spa are a must see, must do. World class! The mountains are beautiful. If you have transport, close by is Ashburton, Lake Coleridge and much more. The information centre in Methven, "I-Hub" is a wealth of information and things to do. Off the beaten track, an alive, looked after, vibrant small town NZ with genuine charm and a smile. My wife and I loved it, we will be back.

Methven is a good place to stay if you are planning a few...

Methven is a good place to stay if you are planning a few days skiing in the winter, be prepared for closed days. I would go for self catering as the standard of service and quality of food is much the same as what you could do at home. If you are prepared to pay top dollar there may be somewhere that is high standard, I never found it. On closed days you can walk the Fairy Trial by the racecourse, go to the hot pools try not to eat there unless you are prepared to wait 40 minutes to an hour for your food, beverages may not be up to standard. There are also other tracks in the bush not far from Methven that you can do a 30 to 3 hour walk. Catch the bus up the mountain its much less stressful than driving.

Safe, friendly, small and cozy town, a stone's throw from one of the best ski fields in NZ. Our hire car wasn't locked all day with all our gear in it, nothing was disturbed , it's just a really nice town and the two pubs have great food, just leave your gumboots off

This was my second stay at Ski Time, my first time travelling here alone. The hosts, and staff are all excellent providing first class service and spot on advice on things to do when weather prevents skiing. I would never consider staying anywhere else in the Methven district. On top of all this the restaurant provides top class meals, rooms provide spectacular views of the mountains and the lounge, restaurant and bar are cosy, friendly places to relax, eat and imbibe. For me it’s a perfect holiday destination.

Very nicely made beds with tight white crisp sheets of high quality cotton, hotel standard. The owners were away, so we had the place to ourselves. They were totally available on the phone however. They also had a very friendly cat and off-street parking. This review is for one night but in reality we were there for three as there were two bookings done back to back.
