About 90% of excursions were water related activities and if that’s not your passion it’ll take a bit of effort to find nature, culture options. What I didn’t like as a solo traveler is that Viator tours were mainly required a couple/2 person minimim booking. Thankfully booking.com excursions was a life saver. Most restaurants are closed between 2-5 pm so keep that in mind. I’m not a foodie so I didn’t explore the fine dining options. Papeete lacks a robust night life, it’s more a “get away from real life” and relax that caters to water sports types. I realized I’m a “city girl” type so after 3 days of chilling I was restless.

Papeete is a dump! We expected more from the French. Very 3rd world, unsafe water, no sidewalks, trash and graffiti abounds, bums begging, dirty drainage canals, and for this you are charged extremely high prices for everything! Bora bora wasn't much better... Moorea was nice. We took a cruise to the Marquesas and Tuamotus which were still unspoiled and gorgeous with genuine natives. The islands are stunning, but just go to Hawaii.

Papeete itself is very bland and the market is over-rated (in my opinion). I wished I had planned properly and spent few nights at Moorea, but I didn't know what to expect. Rookie mistake 🫣 Lessons learnt. Despite mixed advice from the locals, I felt safe walking at night, which is a positive outlook for the Island 🙏 As many reviewers have mentioned, Papeete is only a good stopover to the other islands 🏝 😀 The 2 highlights of my stay was the day trip to Moorea, doing the safari excursions and the cultural night at the InterContinental Hotel.

Over-all it was great.

Over-all it was great. We spent 7 days on Tahiti, plus a half-day excursion on Moorea. 5 days on Tahiti would probably be enough. Next time we will visit a couple of others islands for a few days. Good food and shopping in Papeete.

Spending a day or two there would have been enough, there was obvious poverty, with multiple homeless people. Not what I expected at all. I hired a car to visit the sites, but when I was driving around, everything looked closed, or uninviting. As a solo tourist, this wasn't the best place to visit. If I had known better, I would have book a night & visited the different islands.

The people are what make it so good.

The people are what make it so good. Very polite people who appear to be honest and kind. The shopping mall across the road from the Hilton was a wonderful place with a food hall and a good supermarket. We enjoyed a day trip to Moorea and a taxi trip around that island. Also the 5-hour Tahiti group trip and the boat trip. I did not do any snorkelling as I do not swim and I thought perhaps an activity in knee-high water could have been included in the boat trip. The Museum of the Islands was a good activity.

The property is in a great location, close to everything right in the city. It was clean and comfortable enough - it is very much a typical hotel so don’t expect much but I good little stop over when flying in late at night considering everything is experience in Papeete. Staff were kind and there is a very simple bread breakfast which is helpful on the run!! Be conscious the taxi from the airport is almost $50 AUD so if you are flying to any islands the next day or getting a hire care up that end, try and stay closer to the airport.

Marietta was absolutely lovely and kind and did the best she could to help me throughout my time in Papeete. She even invited me on a boat trip! The apartment was excellent, very comfortable, very clean, well equipped and had everything I needed for my stay. The internet worked wonderfully. Some people wrote in past reviews that the hill was really steep. I did not find this at all. All I can say is that those people must have been really unfit! I would definitely stay here again. Airport transfers were also organised for me.

I was last here in 2011, and it has changed a lot. But not the quality, which is still excellent. It has been significantly expanded. The rooms are spacious and nicely furnished. The staff are very friendly. A generous breakfast is offered. You can also have dinner there. The hotel is within walking distance of the city center. A free shuttle service to the airport is offered.
