The accommodation in this beautiful recently renovated farm house is perfect. You are surrounded by olive & almond groves with beautiful views from the windows. We cannot fault the room, the bed was dreamy and the attention to detail with the little things in the bathroom made the stay comfortable. But what made the stay special was both Gunther and Filomena, they are so accommodating and the homemade breakfasts were delicious. You can see the Foz Coa museum from the house and the little town has a couple of great restaurants. We also ventured further afield to a restaurant recommended (and booked for us) by Gunther and had a wonderful experience. Would absolutely stay here again.

Absolutely wonderful stay at Casa do Barca. The host Bruno met us, made sure we understood the airconditioners, smart TV and all the amenities. The place is beautiful, an old stone house perfectly re-done, walking distance from everything in town, and also walking distance (if you are up for a hike, which we were) to the Museum de Coa. It's a real gem!

This place felt like I was walking into someone's comfortable and stylish home. It was beautiful, quiet, clean, and centrally located, and it had absolutely everything I wanted, from kitchen supplies to basics like ample shelf and cabinet space in the bathroom (I've found that so many bathrooms in rental places look lovely, but there's nowhere to put anything). It's also in a beautiful region and a short drive from the fascinating Foz Coa museum and park. I didn't meet the host, but the instructions on accessing the key were easy to follow. I couldn't recommend the Casa do Tablado more highly.

The COA Valley Museum is fabulous and many travellers seem...

The COA Valley Museum is fabulous and many travellers seem unaware of it. Prehistoric rocks carvings (not in caves, in the open). Field trip by jeep and walking to view them in situ, and wonderful museum are a must for me. A highlight in both my trips to Portugal. I wouldn't miss it.

Got to Moncorvo visit the church and eat at restaurant Lagar...

Got to Moncorvo visit the church and eat at restaurant Lagar. Next day go to Foz do Sabor and eat "peixinhos do rio" at a local restaurant. Then go to Horta da Vilarica, try to find out where the Padaria is and buy the local bread - out of this world. In Foz Coa you need to see the prehistoric rock-art sites in the Coa Valley - you have never seen anything like that. And drink the local wine, eat the local cheeses, try the local sausages and enjoy the friendly people. You'll not regret it.

The region is famous for the prehistorick art on rocks depicting animals 20,000 or more years ago, but there is also a profusion of medieval castles around and cultural sites. For lovers of good wine it is also an excellent visit, the north style of food is marvellous and all is very quiet. Some roads are a bit narrow if you want to go to remote pleces... I suggest to visit with time and go visit the small places, enjoy the quiet, the occasional wild animals, and take some time to hear the local people's stories.

I travelled by train from Porto to Pocinho and Vila Nova de...

I travelled by train from Porto to Pocinho and Vila Nova de Foz Coa is the only place I found to stay before travelling by coach to Guarda. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by the facilities it had to offer and its location in beautiful countryside. It has a tourist office with a very helpful person there and I would have loved to have stayed longer to explore everything on offer but I was only there for one night.

The landscape of the area is breathtaking. I definitely would have invited more time there. The museum was beautifully curated. We didn't get out to the rock carvings but with more time would have. Good restaurants accessible by quick trip by car. Excellent views of the terraced landscape and rivers!. GO!

This town was shuttered by the time we arrived, no people...

This town was shuttered by the time we arrived, no people around. No obvious overnight accommodations. Finally found the only available food at a pizzeria where they were so nice and accommodating and the food was great. In the daytime we visited the museum then did the archeological tour. Very interesting.

The location: the hotel is not at the heart of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, but it is only five minutes away from it. There are several restaurants a few minutes away (walking distance) either towards the centre or away from it, making the hotel more central than one would think. If you are looking for a beautiful area this is not what you will get, but the hotel is really 200 m from the start of the centre, and the area is not ugly either. It is just "normal". The breakfast was good, with great choice.

Loved the location, high quality of the renovations, comfort and cleanliness. Would highly recommend. Lovely friendly neighbours and safe town. Everyone should visit the fabulous museum in this town of Vila Nova de Foz Coa and learn about and see the ancient rock art.

The hotel is in a very special location on the river and is steeped in the history of the Duoro. The staff were all amazing and couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. Next time though I think I would stay in one of their suites scattered through the vines

It is beautiful modern designed small hotel. The owners/staff are very friendly. There is a nice sitting area, self service bar and pool. Breakfast is lovely. Only 5 minutes from the Coa museum, best place to stay if you are visiting the archaeological sites.
