Saint-Gilles les Bains is a working town: attached to a tourist area, yes, but a town nonetheless. The information office has friendly helpful staff to advise you, but you need to choose where to stay according to what you want to do. Reunion has a lot to offer, all in range of Saint-Gilles les Bains but best with a car. On a small island where no journey takes a long time, it is wasteful to be tied to timetables. An amazing spot in Reunion island if you want to enjoy the beach. My family goes there regularly when traveling to Reunion island. The sunsets, the clear blue waters with corals and a variety of tropical fish, the soft sand and the hot sun, it is dreamy. Cakes are home made and have the typical flavors of reunion island. Food at the bar is very good, and the choice of (awesome) cocktails is updated daily.
