Ružomberok is an old industrial town in northern Slovakia (during communist times is was famous for the foul smell from its industries), and a place you still have to drive through because the expressway avoiding the city has not been opened yet...and during my visit this meant chaos with three hours waiting time because of another road reconstruction work... However, there are great possibilities for skiing close to the city and a pair of museums (but aside of that not too much to attract visitors)... The hotel and rooms are simple from the old times but nicely refurbished. Everything is clean and in good condition. Staff is helpful, and communication in English is possible. Breakfast is simple but you have everything you need, cold and warm food, vegetables, sweats, juices. Coffee is good. Location is nice, very close to the lake. Parking is easy, close to hotel. Doesn't speak English but you may be lucky his grandson is there to translate. Half an hour walk to Ružomberok (go right when departing if you want to walk sidewalks in stead of close to traffic).
