Nong Hin is a typical Northern Thai town, split by four-lane Route 201 from the south on up to Loei City and Laos. Seemingly isolated, Nong Hin isn't isolated at all, with constant bus traffic to Khon Kaen, Bangkok, etc. Nong Hin's strength is its central location, so the traveller can go south to Phu Kradueng, west to Phu Liang, or north to the Mekong, all as a day trip. Amenities include bank, cafe, food hall, 7-Eleven, pharmacy, phone store, small department store. As so often in rural Thailand, the quality of the normal 50-baht meal is very, very high.
