Chiang Khong,lovely and great place.
Chiang Khong,lovely and great place. Very authentic border city. Can enjoy beatiful nature also(mountains and forests.) and can visit mountain villages,have beatiful handcrafts to purchase. Made by village people ,(not mass production or cheap copies) Can not find anywhere else.

A great city to do a border run, particularly if you stay at Fortune Riverview Hotel Chiang Khong - which seems to be the nicest accommodation in the area. We enjoyed our stay here quite a bit and would return.

Chiang Khong, a lovely little town next to the river.
Chiang Khong, a lovely little town next to the river. Views are amazing and the food is good. It is not very big so staying for an extended time may be dull for some. Great for relaxing and quiet. Excellent for walking and/or riding bicycles.

I liked to have riverview.
I liked to have riverview. We had two single beds that we rearranged such that they were mire close to eachother. Not perfect but ok. For one person the bed was too hard, for the other it was good. Was great to be on the (small) balcony to look at the river, but there were no seats.
I used the pool, but at the time of the day the two high building on the side avoided all sunshine to warm up the water. We also had to use our own towels from the room, one per person.
Checkout was fast without checking the room. Few hours after we left, we were in Chiang Rai already, staff called us that they we left behind a watch. They agreed to send it to our home in Chiang Mai. Great service that we really appreciate.

We stayed only a night, so cannot judge a lot about this place. It had all we needed.
The staff was nice and played with our kid while we were eating - great service so we can have 5min in rest.
You can borrow umbrellas and it is in walking distance from the Chiang Mai/Chiang Khong bus stop in Chiang Khong (400m).
We booked the agency for slow boat to Luang Prabang recommended by the hotel and it worked out smoothly.

I'm travelling for 10 months and it was my favourite place.
Green fields, delicious food, best staf ever that will make you feel at home.
Also great and very strong wifi in the dinning room.
If you have time before you gonna move to Laos, just stay there for more days. Although Chaing khong is small you can have chilly and great time in the Baan Sakuna hotel.
Can't wait to visit again.

Very peaceful location surrounded by nature ideal for border crossing to Loas. Run by lovely family who will pick you up from Chiang Khong and take you to the immigration point to start your journey to Loas.
