The Legend of the West
San Antonio in Texas is home to 2 of the state’s top attractions – The Alamo and the Riverwalk. One of the city’s former Spanish missions, the Alamo was the site of a deadly battle that cost folk hero Davy Crockett his life. The other remaining missions – Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, and Espada with its aqueduct – are dotted around the city. The attractive Spanish Governor’s Palace also remains.
The San Antonio River runs right through the city, below street level. Known as the Riverwalk, its banks have been cleverly developed to house riverfront restaurants, bars and shops, and are spectacularly lit for Christmas. There are several San Antonio hotels by the Riverwalk which are also close to the Rivercenter Mall, the city’s biggest shopping centre, while La Villita artisan village offers more traditional crafts.
Across the road in Hemisfair is the Tower of the Americas, a tall observation tower with a revolving restaurant overlooking the Alamodome, a huge sports and convention venue, home to the annual Alamo Bowl collegiate football game. Booking.com offers several San Antonio hotels near the Alamodome, and more accommodation near San Antonio Airport.
On the outskirts of the city are Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The city also hosts the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the country’s biggest Western events.

There is an abundance of things to do here , day n night lots of food and bars up and down the River Walk. Boat ride and dinner on the river . I lived in San Antonio for 15 years before moving. I love San Antonio; I was just staying in the wrong part of the city. I love really it there. Beautiful, historic buildings with a ton of history to explore. Staying near the River Walk is optimal since we walked from there to many destinations. We loved the light show at the San Fernando Church, La Gloria restaurant in the Pearl District, and Leche del Tigre in Southtown. Market Square reminded us of markets in Mexico and Peru and La Villita also had lots of interesting small stores. Love love love San Antonio! The culture here is amazing, and so many fun experiences. Has really great food spots around the city, and it’s central Texas so it’s not as far as a drive to explore other parts of Texas. Easy to navigate around. The Hop On Hop Off was the most helpful. We learned a lot about the history of, cultural diversity, and the people from our retired school teacher Mr O. The customer service of many staff from hotel, restaurants, Hop on busses, and general services was impeccable. They never said go here or there from just directions. They all walked you to an area so you could see exactly where we wanted to go. The Alamo and the laser light show was wonderful. The boat ride too was fun. We liked the outside seating areas on the 15th and 22nd floors. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was included. They offered kickback, which was from 5.30 until 7pm and included food and drink (3 alcoholic per each adult). The hotel also had 2 guest laundry rooms . The hotel elevators go directly to the riverwalk. On our tour of America this was our thirteenth hotel and by far the best. The room was very spacious and cooking was fine. We had a room on the thirteenth floor overlooking San Antonio and the Alamo - evening sunsets and city lights a delight.
