This is a great hotel in Rosebank. Everything is very modern, the rooms are updated and the bed is very comfortable. There is a nice rooftop pool and bar. Breakfast was excellent. While I liked everything about this hotel, the best part is definitely the staff. Everyone was very kind and helpful. Special thanks to Zakhele at reception for welcoming us and helping to extend our stay, and to the kitchen staff for wonderful service and a great breakfast. Highly recommend this hotel.

I liked everything about my stay, the staff were superb from checkin to checkout (they even went as far as to arranging a nail file to us). Rooms were quite big and very comfy, we had two amazing nights there. The location is not exactly central, but we felt very safe, it is a very nice neighbourhood (there is a Starbucks right across the street, a nice mall next door and many restaurants nearby). Breakfast (to be quite honest) wasn't really great, but they do offer a great and fancy variety of dishes. The highlight of the hotel's facilities though, is the gym. The gym is ridiculously big, there is a floor (yes, a floor) of strengthening (with a rowing machine, air bike, kettlebells, benches, dumbbells, etc), a floor for cardio (with a couple of treadmills, bikes, etc) and a stretching floor (basically a large balcony, not a big deal, but come on, they offer three floors of gym). Also the gym is 24/7 opened. Overall, great great great hotel.

The apartment was splendid. Everything was provided in excess, from the kitchen appliances to the towels and toiletries. We were spoilt for choice and pampered by house keeping staff. The apartment and entire hotel was extremely clean. The pool and gym area were spectacular. The hotel rate is quite expensive but great value for money spent.. I can't wait to come back there.

    Johannesbourg is a beautiful city but unfortunately with big safety issues mainly in the CBD. The area of Sandton where i stayed at the Sky hotel is maybe or not more beautiful but definitely cleaner and safer. But even there walking at night above all alone, is very risky. Wandering during day time can be enjoyable though you still have to exercise care. It's such a pleasure to go for a ballad at Mandella Square where many tourists go to get pictured with the huge statue of Madiba. Adjecant to Mandella Square visit the Africa's iconic shopping destination, the huge and sophisticated Sandton mall. Have a delicious lunch with a fresh mouth watering smoothie in one of the so many diversed restaurants or coffee shops of the mall. Shopping is pricy in this sophisticated mall. Uber is the best and safest way to move around Johannesbourg.

    The City Centre is confusing.

    The City Centre is confusing. Start with the 1 hour tour of Constitution Hill as it will get you to the top of the central hill and give you a place you can return to without getting lost. The Jo'burg (Civic) Theatre is nearby and you may be able to see a play. Other places to visit: Apartheid Museum (good) and Gold Reef City (poor), they are adjacent, visit on same day. James Hall Transport Museum Walter Sisulu Botanic Garden and Montecasino Bird Garden Soweto - do the walking tour, contrast between Kliptown and Orlando is extreme. To get around the city use the Bolt taxis. Hartbeesport: Harty's Horseback Safari, also Hartbeesport dam (you will need to hire a car) Pilanesburg Game Reserve: Book a 2 day safari and stay overnight. They will collect you from your hotel in Jo'burg. Stay overnight because you see more birds at dusk and dawn.

    We were strongly advised not to go out at night and even during the day it is risky. Our hotel did have a shuttle to a mall. Johannesburg is a great jumping off spot for all of Southern Africa and I may go back. The tour to Soweto we took was very interesting as was the Apartheid Museum. Kruger National Park is relatively close by and has amazing wildlife.

    The hotel had a great old world feel about it whilst being equipped to modern standards inside. So often hotels are cookie cutters and you lose the feeling of where you are - the Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Balalaika Sandton was true to its self and it's city. The staff were fabulous in every team and made us feel very welcome and looked after us like we were family! Food and drinks and chilled evenings in the hotel were all great!

    What an excellent hotel! The staff were all lovely, the taxi they organised for us from the airport was there waiting for us, his driving was the safest driving I’ve ever experienced in South Africa (his name is Mike) the breakfast buffet was brilliant too ! We couldn’t fault it. Oh and big shout out to the guys ferrying us around in the golf buggy! You were all amazing!

    It was my first time in South Africa and I was a little nervous. The hotel felt very safe and it was possible to go straight down to the Rosebank shopping centre from a lift in the hotel and was also convenient for the train to the airport. I stayed before and after a tour with Intrepid and would certainly use it again if staying in Johannesburg.
