When my driver edged up the narrow-inclined driveway of this very modern home, I didn’t know what to expect. But Pearle and her husband Ranjan greeted me with broad smiles and open arms. After they had retired, they built this sophisticated home on their family’s property. Since the terrain of Matale is mostly mountainous, their home is perched up high on a small hill, allowing a beautiful view of the city from their wide terrace. Communication was swift and efficient as their daughter fielded email questions from the UK. English was spoken perfectly by all members of the family, so no worries for any miscommunication. I had arrived in the late afternoon and Pearle offered me tea. Ranjan returned with some short eats and we sat around chatting. The conversation was easy and I felt like I was visiting good friends for the afternoon. My room was located just off their living room with an adjacent bathroom with contemporary fixtures – it felt like I was in a fancy hotel! The stylish room with extremely high ceilings was spacious and tastefully decorated with an enormous mosquito net tied with ribbons around the large four poster bed. There is a portable air conditioner/fan which was not really needed as the evenings are usually cool and temperate. Breakfast was a luxurious feast with red rice string hoppers, potato curry, dal, green gram and a delicious, spicy chicken curry. Watermelon, pineapple, and sweet juicy papaya from their garden rounded out the meal. After retirement, Pearle turned her interests to cooking and she is certainly an accomplished cook! My only regret was staying only one night and will certainly come back for a longer visit!

One of our favourite stays in Sri Lanka! An absolutely incredible guesthouse with the most lovely hosts, and crazy good value for money. We had a beautifully decorated room, and there were several hangout spots both indoors and outdoors that you were welcome to spend time in. The breakfasts/dinners are served al fresco under a pergola overlooking the valley with rice paddies and beautiful birdsong. One of the absolute highlights was the free cooking class to make your dinner - we made 4-5 different curries with our rice and curry order, with the most delightful chef patiently waiting for us to weakly shred fresh coconut to make sambal!! About a 10-15 min tuktuk ride into town for an explore, which was very reasonably priced. I'm so glad we stayed here a bit away from the centre of town rather than in the hustle and bustle of the city centre. The hosts are also so welcoming and lovely, and speak excellent English. They also helped organise transport for us to Nuwara Eliya to our next stay. This was a genuinely edenic experience and we would absolutely come stay here again on a future visit to Sri Lanka.

Amazing place in amazing location with amazing owners! I loved it from the very beginning. I usually travel with public transportation and Nadie helped me to get to their place from the main nearby town and later gave me a ride back. She also was very helpful with organizing for me a transport to main sights in the area - Arankele Forest Monastery and Ridi Viharaya (I had a scooter but it was also possible to go with a tuk tuk driver). Breakfast and dinner were made at home and they were delicious and the portions were big enough. I also had some fresh fruit juices and fruits, it was amazing! There is also a nice swimming pool with trees and bushes around. It’s so beautiful 😍 Important to note that there is almost no internet connection there, I don’t find it as a disadvantage but if you want to work online from there, that might be impossible. However, if you want to relax, go offline and enjoy the nature as me - that’s the best place to go! Thank you Nadie for taking such a great care of me! I will definitely be back! 🥰

The house was located in the first floor of the villa. It was huge and very spacious. The house had all the essential facilities for a comfortable stay. The location is about 20 minutes drive from city center, yet we loved the serenity of the place. Short walk to the main road, with a supermarket barely 200 metres away and lots of fruits and vegetable vendors nearby. The house felt very safe and we loved the privacy we enjoyed. The manager of the villa Mr. Saman was super friendly and always available for any assistance. Overall it was an amazing stay and we loved it so much. Highly recommended!
