Set inside the Matera Sassi area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Palazzo Degli Abati offers unique rooms carved in the rock or in a 18th-century building. Stayed in a cave room with shell fossils in the cave walls; it was a well lit cave but with all the comforts of home including shower, air conditioning, TV, and we were lucky in that we had no stairs to take to our room. Also there is a lift that can take you up to the upper level restaurant, Crialòss, that has a panoramic view of Matera. Also very much appreciated the welcome drink. Having a prosecco with the spectacular view that is Matera on a sunny day on a patio is one of the best memories I have. Staff were also incredibly communicative prior to my stay and were able to help arrange for guarded parking and a shuttle into Matera so that was zero stress.

Located just a few steps from the Sassi di Matera UNESCO site, Il Belvedere boasts a furnished terrace with panoramic views of Matera. WiFi is free throughout the property. The terrace was amazing! Great breakfast. The room was clean and cozy.

We liked everything about this charming , beautiful place. The situation right in the heart of Sassi. It’s unique . Beautiful , cozy room. Overlooking Matera’s Sasso Barisano, Fra I Sassi Residence is set in restored 17th-century buildings inside the Matera Sassi UNESCO site area. Beautiful location right in the heart of Matera. Easy to walk to shops/restaurants/city square. The front desk staff was incredibly kind and helpful to recommend restaurants, and even booked us a reservation. The room was very clean and well-kept. Breakfast was well done and included cuisine from multiple countries.

Set 700 metres from the Sassi di Matera UNESCO site, Hotel Casino Ridola offers a swimming pool and free parking with video surveillance. WiFi is free in all rooms. A lovely little hotel, beautifully appointed with excellent, attentive staff. It has private parking but is only a 10 minute walk from the sights in Matera. It also has a small swimming pool.
