Founded in the 12th century and beloved by Junichiro Tanizaki and other Japanese novelists, Tosen Goshobo is the oldest of the hot-spring inns at Arima. The hotel room was different from any hotel we had ever been. Very Japanese typical style. Everything was provided. There was even a massage chair for our private use. In the evenings while we were at dinner, the staff set up the futon beds which were very comfortable to sleep in. Before bed, we ordered Shiatsu massages, which were exceptional. The food was good! Breakfast was definitely typical Japanese style. The Onsen was amazing. The water felt so healing.

The onsen was such a nice way to relax after a long day of exploring Himeji. The room is consistent in size with most hotels in Japan and had a good layout. I especially loved the free ramen and ice cream in the evenings. Incredible value. Great location (very close walk to Himeji shinkansen station)

The room had a great setup. They had the smart TV directly at the foot of the bed. You can browse Japanese TV stations or just play something off YouTube. It was a cozy room that was just right in every way. It's conveniently located near one of the numerous shōtengai (local market streets) in the area and just a 10-minute walk from Himeji Castle and Kokoen (flower garden next to the castle). It's perfect for exploring the area or even if you plan on touring the nearby prefectures with a JR Pass.
