This hotel is literally across the street from the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Gardens, and surrounded by streets of bakeries and restaurants. It only took us about 15 minutes to get to the Gion district. The staff at this hotel were extremely helpful and sweet, and the room was beautiful and huge.

We loved everything about staying at Matsui Honkan and look forward to the next time we can visit. The whole property is well taken care of, with beautiful traditional features and peaceful classical music playing throughout. There is a high level of attention to detail with thoughtful touches, such as an origami crane to greet you, pjs to wear, and a special treat for our honeymoon. A true highlight was the incredibly kind and cheerful staff. They make this place truly special! We also loved the onsen, what a gorgeous place and a real treat. Best place we’ve ever stayed!
