Riverside Guest Lodge offers panoramic views of Grobbelaars River and Swartberg Mountains. It offers air-conditioned rooms and wooden cottages. There is a main deck with a splash pool, a bar, and a barbecue. This property is superb in all regards. The hosts, Elza and Albert, are gracious, welcoming, and ever so helpful. We just returned from almost 3 weeks in South Africa, staying in a number of guest houses. Riverside was our most enjoyable stay. We regretted not having booked a longer stay at this wonderful establishment. The attention to detail in all matters of the accommodation are quite remarkable, really. This is a must stay when in the Outdshoorn/George area. The breakfast room and fare were very upscale without feeling stuffy. Food was delicious!

Delightful hosts Vivianne and Jan came to Swellendam from the Netherlands 6 years ago to take over this quaint lodge. This hidden gem of a place, just off the highway (R60) and only minutes from the center of town, has only 6 rooms, is solar powered, and is set amongst a beautiful, lush garden. The room was lovely, had a large bathroom with both a shower and a tub, and had an outlet near a mirror in the bedroom so one can do their hair. (There are no electric outlets in bathrooms in South Africa.) This was the only time in our three weeks in South Africa, that we had a hair dryer. Along with your room key, you get a driveway gate opener. One needn’t worry about safety here. I wish we had planned more time to just hang out.
