FAQs about hotels in Ottawa

A Symbol of Canadian Pride

On the south bank of the Ottawa River, the Canadian capital Ottawa is a grand symbol of what the country stands for: bilingualism, civic pride and wonderful vistas.

Facing Langevin Block (the prime minister’s office) is the city’s most famous landmark - the Centre Block parliament building. Its tall central tower and circular parliamentary library make a great photograph from Gatineau across the river, which is joined to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal by a series of locks. Skating on the frozen canal is a highlight of the huge Ottawa Winterlude festival.

The city’s history is detailed in Bytown Museum by the locks. Opposite is peaceful Major’s Hill Park, overlooked by Château Laurier, a historic hotel named after a former prime minister. Also named after him is Laurier House, his seat of office. Other important national buildings include the Royal Canadian Mint, Supreme Court, and Rideau Hall, the Queen’s official residence when in the country.

The business district and Ottawa Convention Centre are in Downtown, and nearby shopping options include Rideau Mall and ByWard Market - the oldest farmers’ market in Canada and the area with the best nightlife.

Ottawa accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with pools, B&Bs with parking and apartments near the train station, all easily accessible from MacDonald-Cartier Airport.

Attention - the Parliament is in terrible state (from the outside, because it is under MAJOR renovations. So don't expect to be able to take any impressive pictures. There are also renovations being made on many buildings downtown and you can already see a certain modernization, as well as preservation of some beautiful old buildings in the downtown core - which actually looks really great and is very interesting and fun to see. We just loved the National Art Gallery and their exhibits, as well as the Canadian History Museum in Gatineau. We had a great time exploring the Rideau Canal and different areas of the city.

it has some nice features - lots of parks! We walked everywhere, couldn't get into the parliament building no matter how often we showed up there - we really wanted to see a bit of how parliament works. Food is much more expensive than in the US and we only ate at maybe 2 places - not very good, food is kind of bland and very expensive. We went to Ottawa to see the Louise Penny event at the art center for the launch of the Black Wolf - she is amazing - we've read all of her books. There were few actual cafes and the few we stepped into did not have any appealing treats, Ottawa does not at all feel like a "foodie" town

Ottawa is the Capital of Canada.

Ottawa is the Capital of Canada. Very vibrant and yet not very large. It is naturally the centre of federal politics, but also a centre of bilingual Canada and of culture with several prominent museums and art galleries.

We love Ottawa and come for a visit often. People are friendly and polite. Lots of wonderful parks to see and trails. They are excellent. Plenty of places to eat in or take out. The area we stayed in was nice and clean and overall the city was very clean. Love that. Missed see Mark Carney.

A delightful city and so much to see.

A delightful city and so much to see. Much preferred it to Montreal and Toronto. A pity the parliament buildings were closed for tours, due to extensive building work, The Air AND Space museum was very good as was the war museum. I wish I had longer to explore that my 2 days.

Late summer trip with great sunshine, everyone was having a good time around the Byward market, with a drums band. Local fete in Chinatown on Sunday. Pleasant walk along the Parliament hill and river & canal. Plenty of food to try, with small stalls & shops as well as bigger ones. Easy to travel (train from airport is cheap, very clean and modern), rented a bike to get a good view of the city and Gatineau accross the river.

Amazingly huge suites. Bigger than my apartment back home. Despite the huge units it was still the cheapest priced hotel that I found in downtown Ottawa. Huge complimentary breakfast buffet with tons of options. (easily a $25 meal at a restaurant). Lots of additional seating across the hall so no issue there. Very pleasant staff. On the weekends you can request NO HOUSECLEANING NEEDED and get $10 back for each such day. Never used the gym so can't comment there.

The location is excellent. It is very near downtown of Ottawa and you can walk to the viewpoint. They are renewed from a jail to a hostel, quite a special experience to stay a night at the historical building. They have morning tour provided to introduce the history and features of the building. Such a amazing guide tour and everyone stay here shouldn’t miss it.

Quaint, large, and comfortable room in a Victorian era home, with several spacious common areas, a simple (and cheap!) breakfast, and incredibly responsive staff (Lucy is delightful 😊). Perfect downtown location and a few parking spots for rent as well (cheap for Ottawa, trust me!). I will definitely stay there again.
