The Pearl of the Adriatic

A medieval beauty full of magnificence and glory, Dubrovnik is surrounded by white stone walls. Located on the Adriatic coast of Croatia, this masterpiece is one of the most promising tourist destinations.

Passing through the imposing stone gate of Pile Gate, you will find yourself immersed in history. Take a walk in the narrow streets of this charming city, enjoy a cup of coffee in one of the colourful cafés, or order fresh fish in one of the outdoor restaurants.

Surrounded by turquoise waters, Dubrovnik Old Town sights include the picturesque Stradun, Onofrio fountain and the Franciscan monastery.

The city’s cable car will take you up to Mount Srd from where you can savour panoramic views over the treasures of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Staying two nights inside the Old Town gave us enough time to explore Lokrum Island, walk the full city walls, and visit all the main attractions — a perfect amount of time to enjoy Dubrovnik at its best. Additionally, it's recommended for Game of Thrones fans.

Dubrovnik is such a gorgeous place, beyond the huge crowds of tourists from the cruise ships during the day the place is relatively easy going outside of these hours, I went in very early October and the weather was very nice. Lots of things to do beyond walking the Stradun, lots of lovely eating places, Dubrovnik by night is just stunning, so romantic with all the lights and boats, definite things to do is the walk the walls, start early in the morning for great lighting and less crowds, take a sunset cruise on the Karaka Traditional Ship, so lovely, go to the market and sample the locally handmade products, walk the streets late at night and early in the morning, you'll leel like you've stepped into another time. Oh and find Buza Bar located on the rocks just outside the walls along the cliffs, have a drink at sunset and toast to an impossibly beautiful city that is Dubrovnik.

Old Town is fascinating area to walk around and if you're into Game of Thrones then do the tour. Very expensive for food and drinks and entry to sites. Great for a long weekend off season, a longer trip in the summer would be preferable as beaches and scenery were wonderful

I'd been to Dubrovnik before, when it was still in...

I'd been to Dubrovnik before, when it was still in Yugoslavia. I was looking forward to revisiting the town, and bringing my wife. Unfortunately I left disappointed. The old town is still pretty, but it's been restored to a point where almost every building looks new. There are signs all around town for attractions, restaurants and sights, and they are all done in the same Game of Thrones style. The old town felt like a movie set, like a Disney-fied version of the real thing. The fact that every other shop in town sells official Game of Thrones merchandise didn't help. Then there's a the cost of everything. The city walls cost €40 to get on, that's without a tour or guide. For another €10 you can get a Dubrovnik Pass for three days, which also includes entry to some museums and a bus pass. Another recommended attraction is the cable car to the top of mount Srđ, for a view over the old town. That's €30. At the top it's another €3 for the selfie platform to get the best view. Food in the old town was ok, but again pricey. Two coffees and two cakes in a cafe on Stradun was €28. I live in Dublin, I'm used to rip-off prices, but Dubrovnik was something else. Unless you're dead-set on seeing the Game of Thrones locations (which we didn't, I've never watched it) I would recommend visiting on of the many other beautiful towns in Croatia instead.

I absolutely fell in love with the old town in Dubrovnik.

I absolutely fell in love with the old town in Dubrovnik. The tours I took were fantastic and so enlightening. The only dark tales tour especially was so interesting, going back to the 1500s, my favorite time period in history.

We loved Dubrovnik!

We loved Dubrovnik! The old town is beautiful, enclosed in impressive city walls it is easy to get around, clean and felt very safe, there were no 'dodgy' areas. Lots of great places to eat and drink to suit any budget. The walls are amazing and thoroughly recommend walking them. The cable car to the top of the hill is well worth the ride and very pleasant having a drink at the top. Some reviewers have remarked on how expensive it was but we thought it was comparable if not less expensive then other european cities and we found it good value. Suggest buying the Dubrovnik pass for 40 Euro which includes the city walls and access to other museums etc, the walls on their own are 40 Euro so well worth it. We prebooked taxis to/from the airport which was cheaper, £25 each way took 30 mins. Normal taxis are readily available at Pile Gate and other areas. The yellow bus tour was good for approx 90 minutes from Pile Gate with commentray and stops to allow for good photo ops. In general the Croatians are very friendly and helpful and speak great English. Overall a lovely place to stay and nice and easy to get around. We stayed for three nights which was ideal. You could stay longer if you wanted to venture into Bosnia, Slovenia or visit nearby islands. Favourite restaurant was the Arsenal at the harbour. We did our own walking tour after printing one off from the internet or there are plenty of tours at all times of day. Love Croatia, went to Split and Brac in July and came back for more to see Dubrovnik in October, enjoy!

The hotel was good value for money. Although I think for other travelers it would more make sense to book the trip as all inclusive.( is more cost effective and includes breakfast and dinner, which is otherwise more expense to pay for separately). Check out process was very quick and effective. Really enjoyed the private beach and swimming pool as part of the stay. Easy links to the old town via bus so overall very practical and enjoyable experience.

This hotel offers all the amenities we needed to fully enjoy our stay. The breakfast was outstanding, with a particularly impressive selection of fresh fruits. The location is ideal—situated right on the seafront with direct beach access, and only a 15-minute bus ride from Dubrovnik’s historic Old Town. Highly recommended for both relaxation and exploring the city.

The location of Vis Hotel in Dubrovnik was extremely convenient, with a bus that takes you to the Old Town in just five minutes. It is right in front of the beach and offers an excellent breakfast and dinner buffet. The rooms were cleaned daily, and the staff was exceptionally polite and helpful. I highly recommend it.”
