Absolutely everything. That staff, the tradition, the food, our room! Everything was well thought out and the whole experience was great for our mind body’s and souls. I have to expand on the staff. Everyone was so generous and helpful. The service even for Japans standards was very high! I would definitely recommend coming here for a retreat to relax with amazing food and relaxation. We will definitely be back in the future.

Rustic feels which transported us back in time. The staff were friendly and explained everything well. There are several locations for the onsens, and we enjoyed the ones next to the river best. Food was good generally, and we sat round the fire. The rooms were on the warm side.

Amazing bang for buck experience. The remote location is perfect to enjoy a quiet stay in the mountains. Our hosts were absolutely amazing, kind, speaking well English and of precious help. Our room was spacious and cosy, the beds were super confortable. The Onsen was amazing also.
If you want to enjoy the complete ryokan experience, be sure to reserve the traditional meal before check-in as it's made on demand the same day with locals products (about 7000¥-8000¥ per person). It really worth it ! A complete Breakfast is included which is really a big + !

The place was absolutely charming - it felt like staying at a Japanese grandmother’s home.
The host was an elderly woman who ran the entire pension herself and prepared amazing food.
The property is beautiful and very traditional, with its own private natural onsen.
The only downside is that there are no showers in the rooms or even in the building - you can only shower in the onsen area.
It wasn’t a big issue, considering the overall experience

Staying at Katsuragi no Sato was one of my favorite experiences from our 2 week stay in Japan. The traditional breakfast and dinner was amazing, better than a lot of Michelin restaurants. The staff was friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The location is really convenient, only a 2 minute walk from the bus station.
The private baths were always open and one of the best parts of our stay. Would highly recommend!
