Very beautiful Ryokan and we had a great experience. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The food in itself was a great experience and I recommend you at least book 1 dinner and breakfast. The little town feels very local and authentic and the sceneries are amazing.

It was calm and very traditional, exactly as we hoped. The staff was so precious and sweet we didn’t want to leave. We would definitely recommend. We got access to public onsens as well as a private one🌟

My husband and I spent a night here to experience Japanese onsen for the first time and see snow monkeys in the area.
We went with a traditional Japanese style room option and had no regrets. The room was fantastic. Saying spacious would be an understatement. Very large living area, separate sit down area and balcony with beautiful view. The large entryway, washroom, separate shower with bath and separate powder room. The room has AC and we were very warm despite the snowstorm outside. We had the means to make tea in the room with a beautiful tea set and there was a coffee bar downstairs. The room also had a TV.
For both meals we went with the Japanese options and the staff was very helpful and accommodating to help us and explain every dish. There was even a small guide included with each meal outlining what is being served for each course.
The facilities were outstanding as well. We opted for a private onsen and it was simply magical with the snow outside. There is a swimming pool as well that my husband used. If you forgot your swimwear you could get one there for a small fee. There is a small gift shop downstairs (they accept the cards as a payment option) with local sweets and small souvenirs.
The fact that you got collected from the train station with a minibus and dropped off after your stay was extremely convenient as well and we didn't need to take the local bus. We were very close to the snow monkey park.
We had a fantastic stay and we couldn't ask for a better experience.

Before arriving, i loved the fact that they were so responsive with our messages. The property even texted us about our arrival time since we got lost and only arrived past 9pm.
The property itself is very well maintained. The room was spacious for my 4yo to roam around and play. They also had a lounge where they had hanko, coloured pens, crayons and even water colours. My 4yo loved going there to pass the time.
We were also given complimentary yukata to wear around town. It was a first experience wearing one for my family.
Definitely go for their breakfast options. They served traditional Japanese breakfast in a private room. And the menu was never a repeat.

We had an amazing stay at Shibu Onsen Kokuya. On our arrival day the owner came to pick us up from the nearby station. After a short drive we arrived at the Ryokan where everything was taken care of. Our luggage was brought up to our room and we were seated for the check-in procedure.
After a quick explanation of the hotel, we were guided to our room. This was everything we could have expected and more! The room was spacious and we were given some tea. The staff informed us of the hotel amenities and also the amenities which can be used outside the hotel. All of the onsens which are part of the hotel can be used privately which was amazing. At almost all of the onsens we could adjust the water temperature to our liking.
We also enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Once again this exceeded our expectations. The Kaiseki style dinner was delicious. There were so many little dishes to try out, we even got to try Wagyu. For breakfast we opted for the Japanese style breakfast which was also amazing and quite big. After breakfast the hotel provided a free shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park which we gladly took. They bring you there just before it gets really crowded too!
Next to all of this, all of the staff was really friendly and spoke a bit of English. They ensured that our stay at the Ryokan was unforgettable! I would definitely recommend going here and if we are ever back in Japan, I will go back for another visit!

The private onsen was very pleasant and allowed couples to bath together unlike the public baths. The location was very convenient for access to the public onsen also with numbers 1 and 2 only 100 meters or so away. The Japanese breakfast and dinner included with the room was excellent with very attentive and personal service.

Hatsunoyu is located in Shibu, a quaint village with healing onsens, great restaurants, and a central location for exploring the area. Yuko was an amazing host, making us feel so welcome in her wonderful home and she gave us lifts to/from Yudanaka station and the nearby Jigokudani Yaen-Koen (Snow Monkey Park). The room was spacious, quiet, and spotlessly clean with tatami mats and great facilities, including a kettle for making green tea. Nice warm room, even during chilly December nights. Felt like we had stepped into a movie as we walked around town in yukatas in the snow! A perfect place to experience beautiful Nagano.
Featuring 2-star accommodation, Andaikan is set in Yamanouchi, 3 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park and 11 km from Ryuoo Ski Park.

This was an incredible experience! The building and room was decorated beautifully, the futons were very comfortable and we really enjoyed the onsen. The breakfast was delicious (best miso soup!) and the host was super lovely! She was super kind to help plan our travels to the snow monkey park and Yudanaka station and even offered us a ride (extremely grateful)! She also recommended dinner options as we arrived late to check-in. The stay felt wholesome and caring - many small details that words cannot convey.
