The meals were excellent (both dinner and breakfast) and were served in the room, which has its pluses but is also a little strange as there is staff in your room early in the mornings. The staff is very nice and accommodating. The outside onsen is beautiful and is accessed with a fenicular which is a fun experience. Wonderful for solo travellers like myself who want to experience some “zen” and relax. The balcony doors open right up so that you can hear the flow of the river and feel the cool breeze enter the room. The private hot spring, beautiful common areas (also looking out onto the Itoo River) and friendly staff made my stay all the more better. The kaiseki dinner was delicious and the restaurant staff were very helpful, they provided me with a reclining chair/bed for my 4 month old who can’t sit up yet and I was able to enjoy my dinner as my baby fell asleep in it. We travelled with 2 young kids, it was difficult to keep them quiet and orderly but the staff were quite understanding about that. Beautiful historical building, wonderful facilities and an incredible onsen (with pure hot spring water). Stayed with 4 adults and 2 kids in the large room and nothing was wanting.
