This was my third time staying and I will return again. I really love the cooking which uses many dishes only found in this area. It’s a short walk to the start of the Haguro San stair walk so it’s ideal to stay here if you are planning to do the walk.

Everything. Room, view, bathroom, service, everything was incredibly amazing. We have a very pleasant stay and pleasant onsen as well. Just to remind that English is very limited, but it is not a problem for us at all.

Everything! The hotel is comfortable and attractive. The staff are exceptional and so helpful in all aspects. The onsen facilities are wonderful and the food was heavenly. We were there for three nights as a rest and step back from our hectic holiday. Left feeling refreshed and sad that our stay was over.

This was an absolutely amazing stay that far exceeded our expectations! It was our first experience in a Japanese style room and an onsen, and the room was a delight. Comfortable futons impecably laid out while we had dinner, a lovely highgloss low table with comfortable seating. The tatami flooring was a delight to walk on. There is so much attention to the little details, even slippers ready to slip into in the toilet! The dinner was absolutely fabulous. This was one of the healthiest dinners we've had this vacation, with plenty of vegetables and soup and good quality seafood. The breakfast was also more than plenty with a varried delicious buffet. And the onsen was amazingly hot and calm. I actually intended to leave after a quick dip but immediately returned to it as it was so comforting. The cool relaxation corner next to the onsen is also a very nice touch, as is the tv playing a documentary of the region's culture and nature at a suitably pleasant low volume. The staff is also amazing! Though they don't quite speak English, they are all very kind, attentive, and enthusiastically helpful. Even if you don't immediately see anyone, as soon as you're on the premise looking a bit lost, they will show up to unobtrusively offer their assistance. The souvenir shop is also a very nice touch! With many nice local foods, some of which are also used in their restaurant and nice snacks, cloth and trinkets I hadn't seen elsewhere.

Everything was wonderful - the pickup and drop off at Sanze station, the kind staff, the food, the beautiful view from my room, and dinner (with sunset view). I very much enjoyed the outdoor onsen. In my experience, large onsen hotels with scenic views (eg Enoshima) tend to not offer very good food and cut a few corners on maintenance but the food was very good and everything (including music playing in the corridors) was thoughtfully and carefully maintained. This stay was one of the highlights of my 10-day solo trip.

A family-run place, Tamokan is basic but excellently located for those interested in visiting Mt.Haguro. The food was excellent, and we were amazed by their hospitality. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, and the owner was super helpful, too. The couple spoke English, there was no language barrier, and everything was smooth.

The peaceful atmosphere of the whole place. The meals are so coordinate and precise. Very refine. At the arrival and departure, there is such courtesy. It feels like a VIP arriving to the hotel, but when they come out to send me off, it feels like a family member is departing.
