Rio Dulce
Boatique Hotel and Marina features a garden, shared lounge, a terrace and restaurant in Rio Dulce. 6.7 km from Castillo de San Felipe de Lara, the hostel provides a bar and water sports facilities. The accommodation offers room service, a tour desk and currency exchange for guests. It’s a pity we did not book more nights in this accommodation. We travelled through Guatemala and this was kind of a break from our tight schedule and we couldn’t be happier. The accommodation is amazing (the scenery made me forget the fact we had to share a bathroom with the other guests), and the whole staff is kind and nice. Definitely a recommendation and, if I ever go back to Guatemala, I will definitely book a (longer) stay here!
Lívingston
With Ribera Rio Dulce Beach reachable in a few steps, Casa Maya provides accommodation, a restaurant, a garden, a private beach area and a bar. Free WiFi is provided.
Some units include a seating area and/or a patio.
What should I say, this is probably one of the best accommodations we have ever been during our travels.
Not regarding the rooms, those are very basic (but clean) and have a roof which is open on the side so all kind of insects might get into your room (we only had one moth one night visiting us but the mosquito nets help to keep them generally out of your bed).
But what is outstanding is the hospitality and the kindness of the owner Martha and her family. You really feel part of the family and everybody is supportive here.
Yes, you need a Kayak or a Lancha to get somewhere, but this is no big deal and there is enought to do around the hostel using those for more than 2 full days (e.g. Tiger Cave and Livingston). But you can also just relax since the view is stunning (especially the sunset).
Additionally they offer food and drinks (and free water) for a very reasonable price and if you require anything they will try to help.

The dinner for 80 Quetzales was great! Super chilled atmosphere and super cute dogs :)

Rio Dulce

Among the facilities of this property are a restaurant, free shuttle service and room service, along with free WiFi. The guest house has family rooms. Great place to spend few days in the middle of nature. Wifi worked well in the restaurant area, where you can also chill and enjoy cold drinks and the delicious food they serve. They have good food options (also for vegans). The staff is really friendly. Overall it was a very unique experience. It was easy to get there - if you arrive by bus from Flores like I did, you get off at the bus terminal and walk a bit back, then you turn right (towards the water) between El commercial Almendro and small bakery (the Sun dog cafe is right at the end of the road, you ask them to call Casa Perico at the bar).

Miramar
A recently renovated campground located in Miramar, Coco Bamboo Beach Camp features a garden. There is an on-site restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. Featuring family rooms, this property also provides guests with a sun terrace. The Camp is located at a wonderful small beach, surrounded by palm trees and mangrove forest. The whole small camp is designed were nicely and made with a lot of love. It has a very nice chill/kitchen area with a large table to get together with the other guests and volunteers. We could join the family dinner and breakfast for some extra money, which was very tasty. We did rent kayaks and went to the mangrove forest. The host Laurence helped a lot in preparing the trip and gave us a lot of information to arrive to the camp and go to Livingston. She was very helpful and kind as the other guest were. I would recommend to stay at least three nights, but a few days longer would probably be even better.

La Viña
Boasting a restaurant and a bar, Hotel el viajero is situated in La Viña. With an outdoor swimming pool, the 5-star hotel has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a private bathroom. The hotel has a hot tub and room service. When we arrived we felt like at home. All of their workers there are super nice, have a nice smile and they make everything happen that you feel super nice there. The standard of everything there is just higher than in any other hotel we have been so far in Guatemala. If it comes to the shower, bathroom, bed or any other facilities, it’s just great! Also the small details! And the best thing is really as already mentioned the staff there. This is one of the hotels where you will say in a few years, remember the „El Viajero“ in rio dulce, and you‘ll immediately remember which one it was.

Amazing sea view from the dorms and the place is amazing to just have some laid back days and enjoy doing nothing. It is in town so you can shop, party, and go for a stroll at anytime of the day. Big props to the boat driver working with the hostel (I have unfortunately forgot his name but he is THE BEST). The banana pancakes are extraordinary and the happy hour is happy. The pink house gives 70s family home vibes, which is cool. Friendly staff.
We planned to stay a few nights and ended up staying more than a week. What an amazing place on earth, but what made it really special where Luis and Victor. Because of them we felt at home and of course their food and cocktails were amazing as well! Hope to see you again guys. For a wizard rematch! And greetings to Balu, wifey and the kids.
Nice, chill place with a lovely family. Good food and drink.
Location was cool and rooms where nice, you are a little detached from the rest of rio dulce, when I was there the hostel was very quite. Sure it would be fun if it was bsuy and were traveling with a big group. Free kayak is great
Huge suite with 2 balconies. The kids were very happy to have their own seperate bedrooms! Beautiful and clean pool.
Placed in an exquisite and unique location, Tortugal is a gem and a must if you are coming by this area in Guatemala. Super friendly staff plus a fantastic and delicious food sums up to achieve almost perfection. I can add that this is a family-kids.friendly location. We came with our 2 kids (7 and 9yrs) and the staff was super nice with them too.
Fantastic lodge by the river, great for kayaking trips along Rio Dulce. The food was amazing, a great menu for breakfast and lunch and family style dinners with everyone eating together. They catered for our kids with different evening meals (pizza / pasta) as they are picky eaters. The rooms are surrounded by jungle, with comfy beds with mosquito nets. Comfy common areas with hammocks and comfy sofas.
