Le Malve Cave Retreat Cave Retreat is located in Sasso Caveoso, the historic part of Matera. It boasts air-conditioned rooms with a town-view balcony and a buffet breakfast. The hotel is in the centre of the historic Sassi districts, the rooms were fabulous and you can choose from a terraced room or a suite in a cave! The breakfast was great and the front desk (Sara and Gianvito) were extremely helpful for us planning our trip. Not only for sites to see in Matera but also helped us plan Puglia, Calabria and Sicily. They were so nice! Highly recommend.

Breakfast was great, unique, and filling. All the complimentary experiences were designed with a lot of thought and detail.

Owner manager Paolo was pleasant and very helpful - his restaurant suggestions were excellent. When our booking for a tour was misplaced, he cycled down to the tour agency to help us resolve it.

This is a beautiful and chic hotel and spa. It is a restored historic mill. The hotel was still getting ready for the high season when we were there. Once the new fountains, terrace and swimming pool are up and working it will be absolutely terrific. A spa treatment is included in the reservation. The rooms are very nice, beds so comfortable I had the best nights sleep of my whole vacation in Basilicata and Puglia. It is only a 15-20 minute walk to the old town of Matera, and a 5 minute drive to the Belvedere Murgia Timone where you have a wonderful view of the Sassi and the ravine. The hotel has on-site parking which is very important to us; the staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and it has a state-of-the-art restaurant serving haute cuisine by a recognized chef. This is was the most memorable and best hotel we stayed in during our time in Italy, and we plan to return in the near future. A “must stay” during your visit to Matera.
