They even called ahead for us to see if some things we wanted to do were open. We can’t wait to come back!

It is the oldest ryokan in Japan, so, as you can expect, there will be some signs of age in the common areas/hallways. However, our rooms were modern and the hospitality and meals were absolutely 5*!! Loved it.

The Houshi Onsen Chojukan is a magical place that offers scenic views and beautiful walking trails in the surrounding area. The staff members are incredibly lovely and truly elevated our stay there. The food was amazing, and we couldn't get enough of the onsens.

All rooms come with a fridge and electric kettle, while the bathroom(some rooms) has a bathtub and amenities. The staff was the most outstanding, polite staff I've ever had the plesaure to be treated with. This is what Japanese hospitality is like. I truly respect it. The rooms were big enough and very clean. The hotel in general was very well kept and the Japanese astethic was great. We also stayed in a private Onsen of the hotel for an additional charge, which was totally worth it. It was an outside Onsen and it was snowing - truly romantic. The price for value is excellent and the location is great too. Just a 3 minute walk to the city center.

We stayed in the Bamboo/Take room which looked recently renovated and married modernity with traditional ryokan interior well (the hair dryer was Dyson!). We enjoyed our stay in the Take room greatly (great use of space) and the breakfast provided was superb. We have tried other ryokan food before but most of the time the food wasn’t quite suitable for our non-Japanese palette so this was a pleasant surprise. The ryokan itself is traditional with a nice public open air bath. Finally, the staff were really nice and the hospitality was superb.
