United KingdomThis is the most stripped back of the hostels on Koh ta Kiev but it’s definitely the one with the best vibe. It doesn’t rely solely on backpacking volunteers but employs Khmer staff who are all lovely. Food here is the cheapest on the island, drinks are cheap, great happy hour at 3 every day. Max is a really great host and looks out for everyone. You can stray out for a drink or a swim at the other places on the island but it always felt like home coming back to last point in the evening. We booked for 4 nights and ended up staying one week.

I particularly appreciated the true attempts to establish a sustainable eco-tourism approach in dialogue with customers, while keeping a laid-back and uncomplicated attitude. The staff was very kind and invested in making this place very special. ... I had great exchanges, and almost felt like Crusoe when in my open yet cosy bungalow!

There are plenty of day activities, snorkeling, yoga, hiking as well as nightly ones (I was there for an ecstatic dance). Although basic, the dorm is wonderful, open and sea view and I appreciated the comfy pillow! Obviously expect the most basic of facilities in terms of showers and bathroom.
